Hi
i'm pretty much new to Indian cinema...i saw my first a couple weeks ago, MONSOON WEDDING, which i liked a lot. i'm thinking of buying some DVDs, just wondering which ones are the best to start with.. on my want list right now are GUMNAAM and DON. i'm looking for something entertaining for starters..and maybe a little off-the-wall and crazy.
thanks!:)

not a whole lot of people browse here even though I read that it's one of the larger forums. out of 100 people who view 1 might answer, besides me that is :)

I'm like you too and kind of new but have managed to pick out some classics and newer moviews. best place to buy them is indiaweekly.com they are very inexpensive if not the cheapest place out there, and fast service.

Some the moives I've decided to buy are

Agneepath $6.99
Satya $5.99
Mughal-E-Azam $9.99
Deewar $5.99
Khuda Gawah $5.99
Agneepath $6.99
sholay $5.99
Don $4.99
Maachis $5.99
1942 A Love Story $5.99
Dil Chahta Hai $12.99
Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak $10.99
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

And plan to rent these, for now, because of the high price
Asoka $23.99
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (2 disc) $19.99
Mohabbatein (2 disc) $19.99
Lagaan $19.99

go to indiaweekly and do a search on these movies and you can read what they are about etc... and see if it's your type or not. but from what I have read and heard these are some of peoples favorites.

good luck in your quest :)

'LAGAAN' is an absolute, must buy DVD. Not only is it one of the better quality DVDs, but it is a great film too. By the way, it is nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Film category.
The other DVD I would recommend buying is that of 'ASOKA'. But the DVD to buy is the Region 0, PAL DVD from Metrodome.
