Kadhal DVD seems to be progressive all the way to the end. This is the second Tamil DVD that played in my HDTV setup with out any flickering or issues from first to last (the first one was Kakka Kakka). Can any one confirm?

I hear he makes fun of a lot of people in this film, including Vijaykanth.

Yes he made fun of every one from Jaya to karunanidhi to rajini to kamal to vijayakanth

Vijayakanth reply is also funny - making fun of an actor by another actor is like spitting at the sky - its going to fall down on you

anyways, now that vijayakanth started a political party, he has to be prepared for even worst!

i dunno if thats good news or bad news re: vijaykanth. funny comment indeed.

thanks for info re: kadhal. you can expect an order from me in a shortwhile, including many IR discs :D and the ARR-Shankar disc. i like all of the duo songs except for Jeans & Boys :x

this is one of the most moving songs: Pachchai kiligal - indian

Some comments on Shankar Hits:

The songs from Indian are OAR anamorphic, unlike the DVD of the film. Does this mean that a new DVD is coming? Will post screenshots from these songs this weekend.

I don't know if it is representative of the film DVDs themselves, but the encoding seems kind of weird. I don't know if they tried to do progressive encoding but messed it up or they are indeed field averaged, but this DVD is definitely not progressive. And it does not have the characteristics of a pseudo-progressive DVD when you step through it. However, they don't look or sound like PAL to NTSC transfers.

Overall video quality on all of them is somewhat hazy, with Boys, oddly enough, looking the worst.

The Mudhalvan songs are ~1.85:1, like the film DVD, but the anamorphic flag is set, so the image is squashed. On a 4:3 TV if you set the DVD player to 16:9 mode the songs look normal.

Ayngaran must have taken the audio from the CD for the songs from Gentleman and Kaadhalan, as they are presented here in stereo, when the films were originally mono.

My main gripe about this DVD is that the songs are not grouped together by film. There isn't even a menu option to play all the songs from a certain film together.

English subtitles are included, which is a nice touch.

I saw this. It was pretty good in the first half. Second half it becomes a typical film. I don't think anyone will buy this.

Ayngaran re-released Indian as an OAR anamorphic, progressive DVD quite a while ago now (with a fair bit of edge enhancement added). The subtitles were also re-done, although the translation is even worse than the original, I reckon.
