'Dil Apna aur preet parayee' in color!

By Sudhir Daruwala ©2005 Bollyvista.com

Meena Kumari
K. Asif's colored version of Mughal-e-Azam has started a new trend. Get your wishlists ready and after doing so, take out this one: Kamal Amrohi's 'Dil Apna aur Preet Parayee'. That's right, 'DAAPP' (if oldies can be colored, they can surely be initialized) will be transformed into a colored film by A.H.B. Enterprises. And as a tribute to the tragedy queen Meena Kumari, the announcement will be made on her death anniversary (31st of March).

'Dil apna aur preet parayee' was originally released in 1960 and the cast included Raj Kumar, Meena Kumari, Om Prakash, Nadira and others. After 'Mughal-e-Azam', 'DAAPP' will be the second film to be colorized. The colourization process is being executed by Prism Pixel Colourization with professionals from Australia and the process will take place in Famous Studios, Mumbai.

Yup, I will look forward to remastered, audio/video Pakeezah, as OAR was cinemascope so hopefuly, nothing to be changed. Colors were beautiful, and audio remastered in DD 5.1 will be Divine!!

Looks like Meena ji is going through revival :P 8)

Do Aankhen Barah Haath, in colour!

April 06, 2005 18:25 IST

Do Aankhen Barah Haath, a classic directed by V Shantaram, will be colourised and digitalised following the success of K Asif's epic Mughal-e-Azam.

TimeBrush, an Australian company, will digitally revive and colourise Do Aankhen Barah Haath, which was made in black and white in 1956 and had theatrical releases in 1957 and 1958.

"The colourisation is on an experimental basis and we intend to release it in India only if the colour schemes are perfect and we are completely satisfied with the output," Kiran Shantaram, son of V Shantaram, said.

He added that if the colourisation schemes work, the film would release in India this Diwali (end of November

Jhanak Jhanak Paayal Baaje is already in color-Would have nice if they had restored that one first. Also it has more box office appeal.

Did you know

When V.Shantaram was still alive, he had not only revived this film but even had it blown up on 70mm film. This 70mm print ran successfully at Bombay's Maratha Mandir (I think, Maratha Mandir was owned/ controled by V. Shantaram or his company Rajkamal) for quite a while.

With stereo sound also. I have the cassette of the songs in stereo, and they sound quite nice. Been a while since I listened to it, but the vocals seem integrated into the music, more so than with the new MEA.
