Devuda Devuda sounds a lot like Koduva Meesai from Dhool.

Are `Chandramukhi` comedy scenes lifted?
By Moviebuzz
Thursday, 17 March , 2005, 10:27

Is Rajnikant’s and director P.Vasu lifting comedy scenes from various Malayalam films? The grapevine is abuzz with rumours that comedy tracks from films like Vismayathumbath and Aaram Thampuran are used in Chandramukhi!

Comedy tracks in Malayalam films are the best in India and has been the source and inspiration for many directors. In Chandramukhi, there are plenty of situational comedy and one-liners between Rajnikanth, Vadivelu, Prabhu and Jyothika, which will have the audience in splits.

However when contacted director P.Vasu is not willing to comment on the rumours and says that the comedy track in Chandramukhi is his own creation!

Don't these guys have anything better to do than to cause trouble over non-Tamil film titles?

[ I saw 6 lirunthu 60 varai and I cant believe Rajini has this much potential. In many scenes I dont feel like he is acting at all. So natural. I am glad to see these.[/quote]

Come on... One cannot survive in cine field for more than 25 years with out talent/potential. If you get a chance, besides above, also see few movies like:

Thappu Thalangal,
Avargal
Bhuvana oru kelvikkuri,
Moonru Mudichu,
Bairavi,
Thillu Mullu,
Nianaithaley Inikkum,
Ilamai oonjaladukirathu,
Engeyo Ketta Kural,
Nallvanukku Nallvan,

of course BAATCHA.

You will not feel he is just acting.

I may not wonder if you become a Rajini fan then after.

'Chandramuki' wall advertisements Defaced
- 29.03.2005

The members of 'Tirupur Manidha Deivam Rajinikanth People welfare organization' were shocked to find out that, the wall advertisements of Rajini's film have been defaced.

They had toiled very hard to have these advertisements on the walls. But tar has been splashed on all over the advertisements. On seeing this they became angry and had gathered at the Tirupur over bridge. The traffic had become standstill because of them.

It didn't take them long to find out the culprits. Because they had made known their identity clearly. They had written their name under each and every advertisement as 'Mandra Nirvagigal'

There has been altercation between two groups of Rajini fans club in Tirupur for quite sometime. Because of this, 'Mandram' had split into two. This defacing is the handiwork of dissatisfied elements of the mandram.

Just like Rajini, his Tirupur fans also love peace. They didn't create any trouble over what had happened. They had lodged a complaint with the police and had disbursed.

Rajini fans should think twice before indulging such activities, because there are very many people, who are ready to have a go at Rajini from outside.

Chandramukhi
By Moviebuzz

First thing first. Rajnikanth’s Chandramukhi is far better than his last film Baba, yet it leaves you with somewhat mixed feeling. Undoubtedly the plot is nothing but Fazil’s Manichitrathazhu from Malayalam. But Chandramukhi is a remake of P.Vasu’s Apathamitra from Kannada with some additional songs, fights and comedy scenes thrown in to further boost the superstar’s image.

Rajnikanth films have always been entertainers with a strong messages and the director seems to be weighed down by the needs of the superstar’s fans and the box-office. And for the first time he does not light up on screen. P.Vasu totally loses control over his script in the second half when he allows the superstar to dominate the show over the “real hero” of the film- Chandramukhi! The end result is that Jyothika skims indifferently through a lead role that has been reduced to a walk-on!

Sivaji Productions and P.Vasu has bungled in choosing a story that is not suitable for the superstar. In spite of Vasu assuring us of a young looking, energetic hero, Rajni has aged and looks tired as he works and re-works all tried out antics one more time. Only this time they don’t cut any ice, even his baritone voice has lost its edge.

The story- Ganga (Jyothika) wife of Senthil (Prabhu) is ‘seized’ by a century and a half old court dancer Chandramukhi’s spirit after they settle down in an old mansion. Ganga suffers from split personality as she starts believing that she is Chandramukhi and tries to take revenge on the people who killed her. Saravanan (Rajnikanth) who is Senthil’s best friend and a leading Physiatrist from America with the help of a local exorcist Ramachandra Acharya (Avinash) solves the problem forms the crux of the story.

Two minutes into the film, Rajnikanth appears on screen by stylishly kicking a baddie with his full stretched leg and the screen explodes into an 11 minute fight scenes in which our ‘doctor hero’ beats up more than a dozen thugs single-handedly. Fight master Thalapathy Dinesh has extensively used wire technique in which the hero is suspended in mid air and does all sorts of acrobatic fights a la “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” style!

Nayantara as Rajni’s love interest has nothing much to do except seen in two songs and disappears later. The comedy scenes between Rajni and Vadivelu are the highlight of Chandramukhi. Vadivelu is at his best as he brings impeccable comic timing to his role as Murukesan who is always suspicious about his sexy wife Swarna (Swarna). There is a huge supporting cast of about a dozen people who have nothing to do except be in the frame. And why were Akhilandeswari Amma (Sheela) and her body guard a part of the cast? All the characters Nassar, Vijaykumar, Avinash are used to deliver dialogues praising the greatness and goodness of Saravanan’s character that is glorified to the hilt!

For Jyothika, who plays Ganga the simple housewife suffering from split personality it is a dream role for which she has worked very hard. But sadly, the actress could not get her expressions correctly and most of time falters while trying to get into the skin of Chandramukhi. Her facial expressions are too dramatic and sometimes she goes overboard by rolling her eye balls that makes you laugh! Prabhu has nothing much to do.

Vidyasagar’s music is hummable, and the picturisation of the song shot in Turkey “Konjam..Neram..” is brilliant and the special effect in the kite song “Kokku Para para…” is good. Sekhar.V.Joseph’s camera is another plus point. As a fan of Rajnikanth, this writer felt sad and anguished to see the emperor of commercial cinema struggling to strike form. Perhaps with a better screenplay and sharper execution Rajni will have a better outing next time. Like in movies we all live on hope too.

Verdict: Watchable

I expected this movie to be not anything great just because of Vasu. He is totally out of date. He gave a hit in Kannada, because it is somewhere between 10 to 15 years behind Tamil movie industry. So Rajini shd be careful next time.

`Chandramukhi` clicks!
By Moviebuzz
Saturday, 16 April , 2005, 11:34

Rajnikanth’s Chandramukhi is the clear winner by a mile among Tamil New Year releases. It is early days, but the film carries best reports, has set the cash registers ringing and pressure for tickets is still continuing all over Tamilnadu!

Says Abhirami Ramanathan: “Chandramukhi is undoubtedly the number one at the box-office”. Added S.P.Palaniappan of Karpagam Cine Complex Coimbatore: “The film is way ahead of other releases and is doing super business and it may turn out to be a hit”.

Fans of the superstar are making Chandramukhi an event. In the Rajni citadel of NSC area (North and South Arcot, Chengalpettu) which also happens to be PMK chief Dr S.Ramdoss territory, the film is doing extraordinary business with some places like Vellore is having six shows a day!

And in overseas the film has taken a houseful opening on working days (the film opened on Wednesday) something which has never taken place so far.

Nayan’s nightmare!
By Moviebuzz
Saturday, 16 April , 2005, 11:39

Nayantara is having nightmares since the release of Chandramukhi . Rajni fans throughout Tamilnadu like in Madurai and Abhirami theatre in Chennai hurled choice abuses, threw chappals and tried to damage the screen when she spoke badly on screen to Rajni!

The crazy fans of the superstar could not digest Nayantara speaking with disrespect to their hero and to rub it in, critics have torn her role to bits as Rajni’s love interest with hardly any scope for performing and is there for two songs and disappears. They also say that she has been photographed badly.

So has Nayan’s big dream of banking on Chandramukhi fallen flat? Now she is trying to pin all hopes on her glamour role with S.J.Suryah in Kalvanin Kathali to bail her out!

Sigh, these fans can get so crazy. I saw a photo of people doing milk abhishekam to a billboard of Chandramukhi

Rediff is really funny - it says MX failed in Hindi where as it says good review about Tamil MX.

If you want a good and unbiased review, you have to wait for Ananda Vikatan review. The best for Tamil movie reviews.

'Chandramukhi' wows Japan
By PTI
Apr 16, 2005, 11:30

Chennai, April 16. (PTI): Five Japanese, fans of megastar Rajnikant, have come all the way from their homeland just to watch his latest film "Chandramukhi".

Rajnikant's movies run to packed houses in Japanese cinema halls and are "very popular", particularly among the youth.

The five, three of whom hail from Osaka and one from Tokyo and another from Hokkaido, arrived here together with Subramaniyan and his wife, who live in Osaska and run a small business there.

"Chandramukhi" was released on Thursday, the Tamil New Year's day.

Hasekawa is a monk of Ichijoin Monastry in Osaka and finds no contradiction in his being a monk and watching films.

"Rajni's movies brings me great happiness. They are always good and interesting", Oonishi, who is a costume designer, said.

Oonishi speaks halting Tamil and understands some English words.

Oonishi and Hiroshi, said they were introduced to Rajnikant movies by some friends and the first film that they saw was "Muthu", released nearly 10 years ago in Japan.

All over Japan there were thousands of Rajnikant fans, said Vara adding that the films were dubbed in Japanese.

The visitors said they have seen all his movies, including the latest "Chandramukhi", and blockbusters "Arunachalam", "Basha", "Padayappa and "Thalapathi".
