This film is India's entry for the Oscars but the a lot of Indian websites are reporting that it has already received an Oscar nomination. I don't think Oscar nominations will be decided until early next year, so all this fuss is a bit premature, especially since only 3 Indian films have ever made the shortlist!

It has been nominated by India as it's entry for the Oscars. (Indian press always reports like this).

In a way it has received 'a' nomination (from India) not 'the' nomination (from the academy) that counts.

'Shwaas' goes to Oscars
By Sam ©2004 Bollyvista.com

Due to lack of deserving projects, the jury members of Oscars 2003 decided not to send any film for the Oscars last year. However, this year as many as nine films were considered for Oscars - 'Shwaas' (Marathi), 'Raghu Romeo' (Hindi), 'Prarambh' (Hindi), 'Munnabhai M.B.B.S.' (Hindi), 'Anaahat' (Marathi), 'Baghban' (Hindi), 'L.O.C.' (Hindi), 'Kaazhcha' (Malayalam) and 'Chokher Bali' (Bengali). Later, the head of jury members Ramesh Sippy, along with other jury members unanimously selected 'Shwaas' as the official entry from India for the best foreign film category for Oscar 2004.

Earlier, only three films - K. Asif’s 'Mother India', Mira Nair’s 'Salaam Bombay' and Ashutosh Gowarikar’s 'Lagaan' were selected for the best five films for Oscars and this is the first time that a Marathi film has been sent for an Oscar.

Oscar Nominations Announced.
Shwas did not get an Oscar nomination. It was just India's entry to compete for the Oscar Nomination.

BTW, another Indian film (or Indian Film Maker??) did get nominated for the Oscars in the Short Film Category.

Is this available on DVD ( with subtitle) ?, This movie has been on my viewing wish list for so long (along with Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Nizhalkuthu).I would like to see these films before I read or engage myself in a discussion on them. Any info on their public availability is appreciated.
