The story of YEH VAADA RAHA [Rishi Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Tina Munim] revolved around a girl who meets with an accident [Poonam Dhillon], undergoes a plastic surgery and gets a new face [Tina Munim]. Instead of using any of the two heroines’ voice throughout the film, the makers decided to get the voice dubbed by someone else. Guess who dubbed for Poonam and Tina? Jaya Bachchan!

I knew it.

Anyway, it's an interesting topic if we include other dubbed situations as well, in this thread.

Often dubbed voices are used for non Hindi speaking artists. Sridevi, Moon Moon Sen and many others. Sometimes dubbing is used if the artist is not available for dubbing due to conflict or some other reason.

Meri Biwi Ka Jawaab Nahin, Jung, ----. There are lots of instances.

Any one interested in carrying it further??

in "chori chori", did anyone notice that whenever satish shah speaks it seems as if they used the original location sound? my theory: they recorded sound while shooting the movie to have a reference while dubbing. there was some problem dubbing satish shah's voice so they just used the location sound recording for satish shah's voice in the final cut. can anyone confirm?

In WAARIS [1988] ("Mere Pyar Ki Umar Ho Itni Sanam"), Rekha dubbed for Smita Patel, as the latter died before the dubbing stage!

The prologue in NIKAAH [1982] entitled "Main Aurat Hoon, Hawa Ki Beti" is to the voice of Tanuja, although Salma Agha is the only heroine!

Bipasha Basu has never voiced her lines in any of her films yet. The husky but sexy voice is not merely her but of someone else. Yes it is the dubbing artist Mona Ghosh who generally lends her voice. And almost in all of Bipasha's films, she lent her voice except the recent release 'Aetbaar'. In this film Bipasha gets a new voice of TV actor Grusha Kapoor. In 'Aetbaar' Bipasha's lines have been dubbed by Grusha, who plays the wicked mother-in-law in 'Kehta Hai Dil' (Star Plus). Grusha had earlier dubbed for Bipasha's debut film 'Ajnabee'. So voice of 'Ajnabee' got renewed in 'Aetbaar'. Actually director Vikram Bhatt insisted on Bipasha for the change.

There definitely are lots of dubbed voices.

Big AB has good dialog delivery and voice, every one agrees. But, I think, even his voice was dubbed in at least one of the films. Perhaps when he was ill or one of his earlieast films?? Any info??

Actually voice dubbing is very common in Bollywood. Voices are dubbed by other artists more often than we can imagine.

One commion reason is disputes when the original artist refuses to cooperate in the dubbing stages. One such example, I just read about today somewhere on the net, was Mahima Choudhry complaining about Zameer. She says, neither was she paid nor asked to dub for her role.

Does any one remember, which AB film was it that AB's voice was dubbed for the initial release of the film and later it was redubbed by AB himself?? Producers didn't want to delay the release and AB was not available due to illness or some other reason??

It is true, Meghna, Vivek Oberoi's sister who is pursuing a career
in playback singing, has dubbed actress Tara Sharma's voice
in Indra Kumar's Masti. :)

I felt like slapping Tara in that film, she sounded shrill and awful!
