i think play.com always put that so the dvd seems legit..as all indian dvds are of course..region free..but if they put region free..it might seem pirated to the international audience especially..

i dont know why..i have high hopes for this dvd..and now im getting a strange feeling that im going to be dissapointed!

I concur!! Dull, soft, listless, lifeless transfer..Muted colors, yellowish greenish brown overhue, overtly dark, low detail!!
Sound ..VERY VERY GOOD!
Extras..Okish!

Overall, no MATCH to MK/ASOKA/LAGAAN!

Even Meenaxi had more sharper vivid PQ!

I have watched 10 minutes on a friend's monitor.
Impression is so far rather positive.
Tonight I'll watch it blown up to 2.4m. Then I'll know
for sure. There is some ringing and compression
could be better, but colors are correct and detail decent.

If colors r CORRECT? then film has BAD COLORS then!! filmed with ODD filters!!
Go watch ASAMBHAV..to see what GOOD COLORS/GOOD PRINT/GOOD PROCESSING is!

Postive in a way, BETTER, WAY BETTER than..MHN!

What I saw looked like the 35mm prints. It's the colors they wanted. The film does not
have the typical super intense Bollywood color palette. It looked less noisy and grainy
than the prints too. I wish I could get my hands on the HD itself. It will be a nice HD DVD
in a couple of years.

I have watched it all now.
I rate it 7-7.5/10. With better compression it would be 8/10.
Review coming in 1-2 days. The DVD is NOT soft. Neither is it very sharp. It lacks
the stupid artificial sharpening and that is good. Edges are quite clean. You can't
have it much sharper without aliasing, ringing and haloes taking over. It's a good
compromise as it is, with the bit budget limitations of such a long film with plenty of
high frequency landscape shots.
Actually the DVD shows me once more that my Sony 7700 is no good in this regard
and produces quite some ringing and haloes not on the disc! I really need a digital out
and a scaler with digital in. I find the standard ringing of the player unbearable since
I'm used to watch HD instead of DVDs.
The screenshots posted here are
representative. The DVD is less noisy/grainy than 35mm prints were.
Have not seen Asambhav DVD. The print looked so so. Nothing special.

To see if it's worth a purchase. It looks very similar to YRF quality, so will probably just end up renting it.
