The DVD I am referring to is the Region 2 Metrodome PAL version. The DVD in itself is of very good quality and is one of the best Hindi DVDs there is.
Regarding movie theaters in India and the US. The fact is that a few theaters in cities like Delhi and Bombay are far better than most theaters in the US. Although I do admit that there are a few theaters in the US that are great. But they are limited to a handfull and that too to cities like Los Angelos and New York.

Just saw Asoka dvd yesterday and it was just fantastic. I was impressed with both the sound and picture. Its the first time I have seen this film and thought it was made very well, good acting, photography and music score / songs. I got the DVD from play 247 and was dilivered in 6 days.

I have also come a cross this site:

http://www.theshoppingmatrix.com/DVD....,0

and it has Asoka, it says studio was Eros and its not released, does anyone know about this one? is it a pirate or for another region?

Anyway just thought I mentioned this as I enjoyed it thoroughly, well done Metrodome.

I doubt it if they’re selling the Metrodome version because it's PAL. They have put up the price from $17.99 to $23.99, not sure about the reasoning.

If you want Asoka you're probably better of getting the PAL Metrodome because Australian TV is native PAL same as in the UK. I'm sure it's going to get a R4 release too, although I've not seen any details of it yet.

The main menu had video playing in the backdrop; chapters had static stills from the movie, every chapter has a different picture (talking about the Metrodome DVD)

If you read the other threads on Asoka you would find that FL Asoka has the same cover minus the BBFC certificates as the Metrodome version.

The statuses of Bollywood films often come into question for validity when several sources juggle around with values. The viscous ones wait no longer than a day to reveal that the big budget venture has hit ground zero and the subtle ones reel you into the disappointment with bad numbers. Shah Rukh Khan’s Asoka comes to mind.

A dozen trade analysts claim it was a hit due to low price sold per territory (a business tactic gone wrong). A dozen others claimed it flopped. While the latter judgment has become the most believed thanks to the arrogance of its main leads, whatever the goals of the film, Asoka hasn’t achieved not one. Not one award at Screen, Filmfare and not even a nomination for its music, which is by far, one of its composer’s (Anu Malik) best works to date (if not arguably the best).

For those like myself who endured the film appreciating it thanks to its brilliant visual presentation, the DVD was a simple prospect. A good looking star cast, a good-looking film and an excellent musical score. Oh how one wishes they didn’t purchase this DVD! My advice to all is not to buy this film on DVD. The First Look Entertainment DVD lacks anything that would appeal to a DVD lover, and more so, the film isn’t even worthy enough of it, perhaps that is what the technical team was thinking when they released the $25.00 DVD. The attempt at a Hollywood style DVD fails on all attempts; one can even go so far as to say most Indian DVD’s usually supercede most Hollywood film’s in terms of extra features (unfortunately one of the biggest DVD releases, Lagaan, lacks most of them) but in comparison to recent film’s DVD, Asoka is a disappointment. The features here are limited- and not enough. There are a suffice number of reasons for you not to pick this one up. The DVD case itself is feeble and easily damageable. There are no inlay cards, no chapter credits, nothing. The DVD itself is wafer thin and transparent, that itself is a problem for low budget DVD players and even some high tech DVD Players. News flash, the laser in the DVD player will not read the disc if the laser can pass straight through it, I strongly disagree that one would go buy a better DVD player just for this film.

It’s a true pity when you think that low budget, regular films like Kasoor, Rahul, Hum Ho Gaye Aap Ke, Albela, Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat and many more had 2-disc specials and excellent picture quality. It’s funnier that most of those films flopped at the box office.

Furthermore, the film itself is presented on the DVD au too normal. Was this not the film that Shah Rukh proposed to send to the Oscars? Even if the film flopped, there was a normal level of acclaim it received, or supposedly received, from a vary of sources. It seems that now we have been shown the true worth of the product and if the DVD in all aspects is any indication, the film is worth nothing.

In another PB Articleregarding the Lagaan DVD, they state:
Quote:

There are a lot of special features, interviews and even a commentary on Lagaan itself. There are filmographies for each of the star cast members. There is an in-depth pre-analysis of the apprehension about Lagaan and the positive outcome that resulted from it all.

Did anyone else see these special features?
Does this Rakesh Budhu guy really know anything about the DVDs? I think his last name pretty much describes his knowledge of Indian DVDs :D .
