If I'm not wrong, there was a Hindi version of Thiruda Thiruda called Chor Chor (I have the soundtrack to it) - was this movie ever released? I've never seen it around anywhere.

Ok - here's a list of Tamil movies (some) with mass appeal, I think. I hope Aingharan comes out w/ re-mastered DVDs of these movies:

All of Manirathnam's movies.
Devar Magan. - Virasaat in Hindi. The Kamal-Sivaji starrer is infinitely superior, IMHO.
Vikram.
Sathya.
Pesum Padam. (Pushpak).
Indiran Chandiran. (Mayor Saab in Hindi).
Raajaparvai.
Kadhalan (Quintessential Prabhudeva / Shanker / Rehman).
Kuruthipunal (Kamal's remake of Drohkaal).
Captain Prabhakaran.
Aasai.
Jeans.
Ullathai Alli Thaa.
Vaalee.
Nerukku Ner.
Mahanathi.
Kadhala Kadhala.
Vetri Vizha.
Aaha.
Kaadhal Kottai.
Kadamai Kanniyam Kattupaadu.
Apoorva Sagodarargal.
Michael Madana Kama Rajan.
Baasha.

Ones that may not have mass appeal/slightly older movies, but I would like to see:
Moondram Pirai.
Utharipookal.
Billa.
Sigappu Rojakkal.
Kalyanaraman.
16 Vayathinile.
Kakki Chattai.
Sakala Kala Vallavan.
Moonru Mugam.
Karagattakaran.
Rettai Vaal Kuruvi.
Varusham 16.
Nenjathai Killathe.
Mudhal Mariyathai.
Moodupani.

Okay - one Telugu movie that I hope Aingharan does justice to. The DVD out there is terrible:
Kshanam Kshanam (Telugu). If they can do a dual language track, that would be awesome (Tamil/Telugu)

And one Kannada movie that would be great:
Prema Loka. (Paruva Ragam in Tamil). Again - a dual soundtrack would be great. (This is a remake of Grease 2: great soundtrack).

The film was dubbed but there was no buyers out there and now is somewhere lying and rotting away in some garage (along with many films...)

Ayngaran are doing their best to get all of Mani Ratnam films. Thier bond is growing stronger ever since Ayngaran bought his produced film Dum Dum Dum, and have began to release some of his films on DVD. It will be only a matter of time when they bag his older movies.

I believe it would be smart for these DVD manufacturers to concentrate on film makers rather than hits when they are trying to garner the general market (audiences that dont speak the language that is).

In this context it is a terrific start that they have decided to get all of Mani Rathnam's older titles.....I await the day when they do a DVD of his 'PALLAVI, ANU PALLAVI'.....I really wish for everyone to be able to catch this movie....i cannot begin emphasising the story writing and telling capacities of Mani Rathnam, though he seemed to stray with some of his films later on where he seemed to delve more on form than content.

And in the same breath I also hope Ayangaran decide to bring to all audiences Ram Gopal Verma's Telugu movies as well....again I have seen dubbed versions of his originals and really would like to see the originals with GOOD subtitles.....Sunny can you convey this to your contacts at Ayangaran. Your gesture will be much appreciated....and PLEASE ask them hire someone who has a minimum grammatical sense to do their subtitling, some of which seems to have been done by a kindergartner !!!!

P.C sriram's Kurthipunal starring: Kamal Hassan and Arjun. An uncut, uncensored version would be very nice.

Point to note: Kuruthipunal is a re-make of a Hindi film, Drohkaal, so I don't know if Hindi audiences would want to see it again.

I haven't watched either one of them. If anybody here watched 'Kuruthipunal' and 'Drohkal', which one do you recommend?.

Another movie recommendation for DVD:

'Guna' starring: Kamal Hassan

Hi Sharan,
Being a fan of Indian cinema, I can only say that Tamil cinema needs to showcase its talent on Dvd.
Ayngaran is doing a good job but, though film alone was sufficient in the beginning it is time that they realise that DVD collector's, of whom I am part of, need more than just the movie. And I know many will argue that it is not vital but...
So as for 'Gemini', Ayngaran needs to do more to their DVDs.
Why not add a DTS soundtrack which has been lacking in Tamil cinema but was introduced a few weeks ago by Tamilini (a competitor of Ayngaran on Tamil dvd field) on 'Bhagavathy' ( Vijay has done better films) and 'Villan' (a good Ajit entertainer).
Kamal Hassan and Maniratnam films would do wonders if they had a commentary track, a making of or even interviews.
Jut take 'AAlavandan', which had documentaries aired on Tv throughout its shoot, why not include some if not all of it!!
'Kandukondain Kandukondain' and 'Minsara Kanavu' which I am sure were dubbed in Hindi don't even have their Hindi language tracks, they could benefit from interviews and making ofs.
Loads of other large scale productions by Dhaanu (Kandukondain), A.M Ratnam (Khusi, Indian)and K.T Kunjumon 5Gentleman, Kadhalan) would provide additional features as they were advertised during their shootings on Tv.
So Sharan, please give them a push and ask them to hurry as I am sure others are already thinking about this while Ayngaran is sitting on it. Tamilini for example...but thats onlty a start as demand is increasing and people will go to the first on the market and Ayngaran already knows this (remeber the success of Vananthaipola, Ayngaran's first)

Cheers
Dredd

Spike tuff to choose. Its like comparing apples with oranges (Oh Behave Aryan :D I know what you are thinking :p )

Om Puri vs Kamal Hasan ... tuff to choose. I had the fortune of watching the Telugu (dubbed) version of 'Kuruthipunal'. It was excellent. I think Ashish Vidyarthi made a mark with this film !

IMO OM Puri & Govind Nihalani make a perfect match... (starting from Ardh Satya) !

Kurithipunal is a commercialised (though no songs) and pepped up version of Drohkaal with more action.

Yes. I read in a review that the role is similar to what he played in 'Aalvanthan', but better.
