There has been some discussion about most talented & fav stars and now it's time to talk about most over-rated Stars just because they had a few hits. Well here's my list of top 5;

Male Star's:
1) Salman Khan
2) Govinda
3) Rishi Kapoor
4) Mithun
5) Shatrughan Sinha

Female Star's;
1) Ash Rai
2) Kareena Kapoor
3) Babita
4) Parveen Babi
5) Dimple Khanna

Amitabh Bachchan - I love him for his best works. However, of late--he's touted himself to becoming a larger than life media darling and at the same time, he denies his cachet. (Give us a fucking break!)

SRK- can't act worth a damn!

I concur with you here! BIG B has becoming depressingly REPETATIVE, LESS SELECTIVE and CHAWANI NUMA ACTOR!! Who will go for PAISA PHENK TAMASHA DEKH!

re SRK!! he is Just SRK, and he found his NICHE! absolutely, with BIG , EXPENSIVE HOUSES! Where SRK is picked before, film is announced and story is PICKED UP!

THe rest is just FILLED IN THE BLACK to ACCOMODATE , SRK with his ACTING/SELLING abilities!

AISHWARYA!! any time!! She was brought out of her CHUMMY BEAUTY QUEEN SHELL, results were scene!! but MOST OF TIME!! it is SAME GOOD OLD AISH

Kamal Hassan - soooo overrated. I mean he's ok, but some people argue that he's the best in the country, which is so far from the truth.

the most complete actor u will ever come across .....he was doing getup's while the rest were still trying to lean their lines

if u have seen some of his more popular south indian releases u would not have made that comment

IMO Kamal Hassan is one of the better actors His performances in films like Hey Ram, Virumandi, PKS, Aalavandhan, Kadhala Kadhala, Nayakan etc... is amazing. He is one character actor that has consistantly played major roles. I would place him along the lines of gifted Indian actors like Om Puri or Nasserudin Shah.

However his Hindi films aren't that great. I didn't like his performances during the 1980's particularly in films like Sargaar, Giraftaar, Saman Teri Kasam, Ek Nahi Peheli etc... He only excelled in Sadma and years later in Chachi 420 (a better film then its original Mrs. Doubtfire). So I can see why Hindi audiences find him over-rated.

Also how can you guys even mentioned the God of Indian cinema = Big B as Over-rated!!! His acting in Deewaar or Sholay alone will never be repeated by anyone else for a long time!!! I know lately he has done some shite movies...and doing too many movies....but that doesn't matter to me...even in the shite films he can act...

If you notice that any one is acting, he/ she is not an ACTOR in my books.

Karan Johar - crappy films....regressive, mindless cinema...filled with overacting and gloss but no substance
Manmohan Desai - whats the big deal? Amar Akbar Anthony was horrible...and other films of his, like Suhaag....they were nonsense films....

So, the thread is about Over-rated Stars.

How can a Star be Over-rated. Star ratings depend on how much market is willing to pay him based on past performance and to some extent, based on his/ her crowd pulling ability (name recognition, star affiliations etc.). No one will pay a single penny extra if a star doesn't command it.

Most over-rated actress in recent memory is prolly Ash. You can throw in Kareena as well tho I doubt anyone really rates her highly to begin with

Most overrated Star SrK

I knew I would be flamed for it, but what the hey. Anyway, I have seen Hey Ram, Aalavandhan, and Nayakan, which many consider to be his best performance, and I thought he was great. But I would still put him below the likes of Naseerudin Shah, Om Puri, AB, Manoj Bajpai, Mohanlal and yesteryear greats like Dilip and Sanjeev Kumar. Basically, I rate him the same as say Aamir Khan and Anil Kapoor, which is still excellent, but others claim him to be the best or top 3.

Maybe watching more of his films will change my opinion, because I have only seen 3 of his southern films and all of the Hindi ones. Maybe Nayakan, Aalavandhan, and the recent one with Madhavan (the name eludes me at the moment) aren't a good indication of his acting prowess.

I dont think KAMLA HASAN is a STAR only!!

IMHO, he is a TRUE INSTITUTION of CINEMA!! infront of Hrithik, SRK, LALOO PANCHU STARS!

I would INVITE u ANTI KAMLA HASAN guys!! to watch just these 3 films HINDUSTANI, SADMA and CHACHI 420!! to see RANGE OF THIS ACTOR!! and then TELL ME, if any LALOO PANJU STAR COULD DO THOSE ROLES!!

If he is PADMA SHRI!! HE IS ALL WORTH IT! IMHO!

OTHERWISE! MIND U, NO ONE IS PERFECT!

Actors

1. Shah Rukh Khan - Although he is popular with the masses, he is not a very good actor as he overacts in almost every film he's been it. He only has a few 'characters' which he repeats in varying degrees in all of his films - e.g the 'bumbling idiot', 'the psycho', 'the over-emotional man in love', 'the over-confident show-off'. He can't really play something original - not even in Asoka, where he thought he'd give his most 'different' performance.

2. Salman Khan - Although people know he is a bad actor, he sometimes gets rated by the critics, where his performance is still mediocre - e.g Hum dil de chukke sanam. Sometimes I just think they feel sorry for him.

3. Govinda - THE most annoying man in bollywood can only make silly comedies now. He is still rated well by the critics, though before he got into this comedy phase he wasn't a bad actor. It's hard to see quite a good actor become a bad actor.

4. Anil Kapoor - Not a good actor and not convincing enough, but still better than all the above.

As for Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan - they are two of the best actors in the film Industry...AB being the best actor still in the industry.

Actresses

1. Kareena Kapoor - She has been given too many chances and support just because she is a Kapoor. People don't see her films because she's in it, but rather to see the other actors- AB, SRK, Hrithik. It just so happened that alot of her hits were due to other actors and big name directors - not her! She has obviously capitalised on this...esp repearing the character of 'Poo' in other films. I find her incredibly annoying and feel sick after watching her performances. I hope something happens to her so she can no longer appear in Indian films. I think she's rather ugly too.

2. Ash - Very immature - she just giggles all the time in interviews. She changes her mind alot and I think is a bit too ambitious as all the praise (and Cannes) got to her head. I hope she grows up one day.

Directors

1. Mahesh Bhatt - The most arrogant, egotistical man in the Industry...who thinks he's the most talented. He grows worse as he gets older and most of his films are terrible copies of Hollywood flicks...and has no plans of changing. He seems to hate anyone who is more successful or talented than him...which is everyone!

2. Karan Johar - His films are too over-glossy, silly and over-emotional to the point of redicule.
