Another film on Bhagat Singh

By IndiaFM News Bureau, June 09th, 2004 - 1200 hrs IST

Bhagat Singh seems to be the most loved freedom fighter as far as Bollywood is concerned. A couple of years back a hoard of films on revolutionary Bhagat Singh were announced of which only three made it to the big screen. The fourth film of the league is now making its way to the theatres. The film titled Aye Watan was announced simultaneously with the other Bhagat Singh films but was delayed after the fate of all those films didn't prove to be good at the box-office. Director Tarun Wadhwa felt that the screenplay should to be altered somewhat.

Produced by Ved R Gandhi, the film stars Tarun Khanna as Bhagat Singh and Samrat Mukherjee (actress Kajol's cousin) as Chandrashekar Azad. And as per the director, what makes the film different from the others in the league is that the story is not just restricted till Bhagat Singh but also revolves around other freedom fighters like Udham Singh and Kartar Singh Sarabha. The filmmakers are planning to sign a big star for the role of Udham Singh (rumored to be Sanjay Dutt).

What needs to be seen is that after an overdose of Bhagat Singh films, are the Bollywood audience interested in any more of them?

If they make another film on Bhagat Singh, I hope it isn't a 'Bollywood' film with all that silly singing in jail nonsense. They should make a serious film with proper actors, which if done well can be put forward for an oscar. Out of all the recent Bhagat Singh films the only one that was good was Legend of Bhagat Singh.
