Without doubt HUM TUM is not original, but then which story is these days. But Kohli proves he can write smartly and urbanely (not yet where Farhan Akhtar is perhaps). Obviously Aditya Chopra had a lot to do with the creative inputs....there's an inherent hangover of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY in all of Chopra's films, from the days of DIL TOH PAGAL HAI...(what with couples from various strata of life telling you how they got together - straight lift from WHMS), but that is a different grouse. HUM-TUM copies WHMS to a greater extent, Indianising dialogues like 'A man and woman can never be friends, because.....' - I leave it incomplete for all those who have not seen either to maybe enjoy, yet it is recommended watching.

HUM TUM stands out for a rock-solid performance by Saif Ali Khan. Whether he is chasing skirts or whether he is frustrated or whether he is angry, or simply flirtatious, he does it rather well. I think he has finally graduated out of the supporting hero role mould. He really needs to choose films wisely now. He has it in him to give Aamir Khan a run for his money, if he sticks to his guns as far as roles are concerned(but I do not think he is as thinking of an actor as AK is)....He does possess more talent than SRK does, so he better cash in on it.

Go watch it for some snazzy dialogues, SAK's great performance and hindi cinema finally showing a lead couple in bed alluding to pre-marital conjugation AND the heroine NOT FEELING too terrible about it. Baby steps now, we might finally be growing up !!!

I never denied Saif 's promising act!! He shows a lot of GROWTH in same REPETITIVE ACT!

Forget abt SRK..i wont comment!

HUM TUM is very urban film, low buget will favour imho, but does not have UNIVERSAL MASS APPEAL..

It is more PALTABLE than MDK(simply disgusting), But I prefer MYKSH on this one any days, despite Saif etc!

Yaar!! C'mon!! I dont advocate YRF mush! KHNH, ho ya Mohabtaen, ya MYKSH, ya MDK ya Hum tum!!They LACK freshness/originality! Film, music, repeated actors, repatitive performances! Recycled Music!
With HUGE GLOSS!!

I am not fond of these kinda films!!

none are ORIGINAL!! any ways!!

I did watch HUM TUM! I didnt get headache(yaadein)!! And I didnt say DUH!MDK, MPKDH, LAKEER etc etc)

First half and those cartoon interruptions were not bearable for me!

But second half, I sailed through bit more smoothly!!

Whether I'll like to watch again!! these movies based on OVERALL appeal, besides being crap..I'll only, MYKSH, if I dare too!!I am not saying it was GOOD/FRESH! no way! It was LESSER CRAPPY EVIL, and Sharara was more than enough to go back, if u dare too!!

These all CRAP REMAKES should be REJECTED on Box office! but it does not happen!

I list MDK/MYKSH/HUM TUM as B GRADE YRF products! Wait till u see NEXT CRAP DHOOM..I saw preview!! Holy crap!!

I was dragged into seeing this film, I honestly wasn't looking forward to watching it to any extent. However, at it's end, and to my surprise, Hum Tum is an enjoyably cute film. It's a commendable improvement on Kunal Kohli's end as both a writer and a director. Unlike his debut, his contempo is a tad more fearless and humanly distinguished. It's also an improvement version of "When Harry Met Sally"(which Hum Tum is inspired from). The latter film is far more lovable from it's irritating predecessor. Don't overlook this one as "another Yashraj films banner cheese feast"(no offense intended Mr_Khiladi )

WOW Dvd Collector, I didn't expect you to like this type of film. I have to definitely check out "Hum Tum" now. What did you think of Saif and Rani in the film?

Saif Ali Khan was hilariously droll, charming in that distinctly flirt sort of way, despite his oddball mannerisms, he was soo much fun to watch every minute he's on screen.

I didn't expect me to like it either, but I did. It's a strongly surfaced sweet film, and both Saif & Rani prefectly add to the film's overall oeuvre. But than again, your talking to the guy who also liked Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Where is the 'original script' Mr. Kunal Kohli?
By Abid ©2004 Bollyvista.com

Not many will remember that the director of 'Hum Tum' and the damp squib 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge', Kunal Kohli, was a film critic and used to anchor a television program. 'Chalo Cinema' on Zee TV and later as 'Hello Cinema' on Star TV, it basically had box-office reports and film reviews. The interesting thing is that Mr. Kohli use to sermonize every film director (excluding those of Aamir Khan) on being original and about how scriptwriters lift from Hollywood. Ironically, both of Kunal's movies, 'Hum Tum', 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge' are shameless copies of 'When Harry Met Sally' and 'You've Got Mail', though like all others, he will term it as 'inspiration'. Mr. Kohli its very easy to be a critic, but practice what you preach!

****MUTE POINT!! Imho

Arsh, I didn't mean to offend you or anything. I value your opinion as well but DVD Collector practically hated every film this year barring his remarks on "Khakee" and "Ek Hasina Thi" - which he thought was average so that's why I was surprised he would like a film like "Hum Tum". I loved "Ek Hasina Thi" - it's my favorite film of the year. But, I also thought "Khakee" was average. Anyway, I have a question for both of you - arsh and DVD Collector. Since you guys have seen "Hum Tum", did Saif do better in EHT of "Hum Tum"? I like to know.

I am not offended at all dude!!

I did think EHT was Brilliant!8.5-9/10
I did always think, KHAKEE was nothing BUT AVERAGE! 6.5-7/10
I DID NOT mind watching HUM TUM once!I will rate it 6-6.5/10
I DID find MHN entertaining, nothing else!I DID love its MUSIC!I rated it 7-7.5/10 only.

I prefer Saif of EHT any day over HT.

IMHO, Saif was way better in EHT as this was a real new FACET of Saif!! he was simply BRILLIANT! while in HUM TUM, he DID WELL< what he does well always !!(a la SRK style, as long he SRK is playing SRK he is fine!! as soon as he try to sneak out of SRK shell, he fails miserably imho).

After watching EHT , I'll hate to see Saif being another victim of stereotypical roles!
Where PRODUCER DIRECTOR, choose SRK/Saif/Rani/AB /Hrithik/POO first and then build a role around them to fit their stereotypical image/demand!

I hope I made my self clear!!

I am not ANTI HUM TUM! but I didnt see any FRESHNESS APPEAL in that, different from what I have seen Saif/Rani do repeatedly!!

God save Kiron Kher from CHOPRA GROUP now!

I agree with the point about SRK. This is why I refuse to call him a good actor. He plays SRK, plays it well and all the NRIs go crazy. But in the end he's nothing but a one trick pony!.

Mid-Week Report

By Ashok

Hum Tum: Doing good business in metros

'Hum Tum' continues to do great business in metros, especially multiplexes.

'Police Force' drops badly from an average opening.

'Yuva' has fallen further in the second week. But the problem today is that film makers and stars do not accept it when their films are not doing well. The 'Yuva' team held a press conference (click here to see the exclusive pics of the event) to show that the film is doing well, when collections tell another story.

We also have a big Indian press publication supporting 'Hum Tum', which is trying to prove the average fare is a hit. But the facts are, only the public can decide the fate of a film, not the media or the people making the film.

This mid-week box office report, published above, is a follow up to the box-office top ten published last Sunday. Click here to check out which movie topped the 'Top 10 Chart' for the week ending May 30th.

BUSINESS TALK

By Taran Adarsh, June 10th, 2004 - 0930 hrs IST

OVERSEAS BOX-OFFICE: 'HUM TUM' SCORES!

HUM TUM continues to wow the audiences at metros. The film may not be a trendsetter like its 'inspirations' D.D.L.J. and KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI, but its overall business has definitely brought cheer to the industry. Of course, Yash Raj Films are smiling all the way to the bank, for the film is not only faring well in the domestic circuit, but even on foreign soil.

In the U.S., the film has collected $ 143,459 on 43 screens [screen average: $ 3,336], taking its total to $ 556,154 [approx. Rs. 2.49 crores].

In U.K., HUM TUM has collected £ 90,315 on 22 screens [screen average: £ 4,105], taking its total to £ 335,023 [approx. Rs. 2.75 crores].

AAN has met with a cold response in U.K., with the film collecting £ 19,460 [approx. Rs. 15.98 lacs] on 12 screens [screen average: £ 1,622] in its opening weekend.

The season's biggest hit in U.K. continues to be MAIN HOON NA, which has collected £ 950,482 [till June 6, 2004] so far [approx. Rs. 7.81 crores].

Tell us what do you think of this feature
