Legal musical downloads through Internet
By IndiaFM News Bureau, May 17th, 2004 - 1400 hrs IST
With the current piracy of music through the medium of internet wherein several diminutive websites allow illegal download of film and pop songs, India's oldest music company Saregama-HMV are taking steps to make the system legal and to their own benefit. HMV has tied up with US-based Divine Arts in which Divine Arts will represent Saregama in licensing its selected wide range of music tracks throughout the world.
The songs will be available on Real networks and a consumer can legally download the song from
http://www.real.com by paying a price for it.
Incidentally IMI, which holds the copyrights of major music labels in India, is working on a similar portal where a consumer can download music from any Indian music label. This scheme, which would cater the needs of music buyers through Internet to a large extent is expected to be ready by Diwali.
