UL, dude, where r AMIR GHARIB masterpiece I sent u?

For some Amir Garib released in 98 may not be the best transfer ever but if it plays great after 6 years what more can I ask for? and for a friend of mine who payed good bucks to buy my spare copy for his collection knew this may not be the best but compared to the crap out right now it's it's above the rest. How many current DVD's rot within days and I'm sure some older WEG,DEI,EVP titles although may not be best transfer's but will still play.

In my ealier post I mentioned criterion's Salo not even an average transfer but now a collectors item because it's out of print and by the way this discussion is about which DVD's are collectors item not which DVD's are best transfers.

Guys I do have a large collection of DVD's released between 1998 & 2001 from DEI,WEG,EVP etc (I bought a large collection during a store closing in 2001. Titles like Amir Garib may not be considered collectors items for many folks including guys from the last two posts but there are some who willing to pay good bucks so I'm not complaining and feel AMIR & laugh all the way to bank. There was bootleg DVD of Junglee released wayback in 1999 and you will never guess how much this one guy paid for it? even for an obscure title like Mehmood & Helen's Shabnam and can fetch good bucks. There are crazy collector's the best example - There was this guy who is collecting out of print titles like Shammi Kapoor's rare DIL TERA DIWANA (a really bad DVD which stops playing after 30 min's or so and which I got from Saudi but he really wanted it for his collection) so one persons garbage is anothers gold. I'm glad some guys are having a good laugh because of AMIR GARIB but hey that made me laugh all the way to the bank.

Criterion DVDs of The Seven Samurai & The Passion Of Joan Of Arc. I've heard that there discontinued.

The criterion DVD of Seven Samurai has ben re-released on DVD for a limited period. I got mine a few weeks back. I the re-release is lacking an extra feature.

Anyone hoping to get the Seven Samurai on DVD, get this version as it has an extra 20 minutes added to the film.

The very first release of Seven Samurai included a restoration demonstration featurette, comparing what the footage looked like before and after restoration. Toho didn't like that, so they had it removed, and Criterion reissued it sans featurette.

Another collector DVD is Hard Boiled (Criterion collection). I think it's out of print now, but the transfer was not too great.

Slightly off topic, did anyone notice that The Rock 2-disc sp edition release is the virtually the same as the Criterion edition. Was this some sort of mistake?

What do you mean? Criterion released the only SE DVD in R1 of The Rock.

I think the Jacques Tati films are also out of print.

A newly restored 70mm print of Jacques Tati’s masterpiece Playtime will be on display in theaters across the country this spring and summer.

I'm talking about the standard R2 special edition of The Rock, released by Hollywood pictures (Buena Vista) has exactly the same content as the Criterion edition. It even says 'the criterion collection' on the menu screen, even though no mention of criterion is on the cover art. According to a friend they made a mistake as this shouldn't have happened, as it is not an official criterion release but has all the same material as the criterion release. The same thing has also been done with the R2 release of Armageddon - virtually the same as the R1 Criterion edition.

I myself don't understand it. I bet those who spent money on the criterion edition or the standard region 1 edition feel ripped off!

Now just imagine if they were to make the same mistake with the Seven Samurai!
