What is a Super Bit DVD?

No bit space wasted on extras. All bit space used for the main feature.

Many new DEI DVDs fit the bill. Kasme Vaade bit rate averages around 7 mbps (5.5 min; 10 max)

Well, while we are making suggestions, I thought I might add an issue that no one seems to be talking about, but which I am sure is a bother to all. Forced trailers and commercials on the DVD, they should be strictly a NO, NO. Also animated menus are fine, but only if the consumer has the choice to press skip and get on with things rather than have to wait for the entire animation to play out before one can make a selection in the menu. Believe me it is the most irritating thing on DEI DVDs something that personally bothers me even more than the darn squished problem.

Actually we have discussed this issue a few times on the old forum. Personally I would love it if Indian dvd companies did what Lagaan dvd is like, no not in video or sound wise but more the way the dvd has been designed. Proper menus and no silly ads. But then Indian companies like DEi are not major players like Columbia Tristar so the ads provide some financial help. Though I agree that this ads or trailer should skipable and also the animated menus finish quickly and some negative examples are Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and Fiza. I am not too sure about DCH since my dvd can barely play that sequence. As for the squash problem, I rather have DEi looking into it urgently, no excuse on that. I think a dvd company can do whatever they like on a dvd but ultimately the film part of a dvd should not be touched or abused. Even that stupid Eros logo that comes during songs on some older dvds is to a certain extent is an abuse in my opinion.

I don't have as much problem with the ads or trailers as long as they are before the actual main film and also as long as they are skippable. At no point do I want my player controls to be disabled. Therefore if they want to put some ads for additional revenue, it is fine, but just make them skippable. Above all we should be able to go to the main menu from anywhere and at any stage. By the way personally I make an effort to never buy any product that is adverrtised in such a manner as to interfere with my viewing of a film and/or forces me to watch the ad.
As far as the animated menus are concerned, they can make them run as long as they wish, but only if and only if one can skip to the end if one so chooses. Also the animated menu should only play the when the disc is initially loaded not later. What I mean is if during the film one chooses to go to the menu then the entire animation should not play out.

I can agree to a certain extent that as long as the main feature is not interefered with they should be able to do what they wish, but that should always be within reason and more importantly the player controls should also never be tampered with and/or disabled. (There are actually some DVDs that won't even let you stop the darn thing).

As far as the 'stupid Eros logo' thing is concerned, it should be a strict no no, infact I am sure it is somethign that if taken to consumer court could be succesfully challenged.

Superbit DVDs are not about bit rate alone. Bit rate says
not much. It's meerly an indication for an upper quality
level possible, not how low it gets.
A high bit rate means a high quality DVD if the video
encoded is high quality and the compression/encoder is
high quality. Both depends on many other aspects. With
DEI noise reduction and edge enhancement superbit quality
is impossible, at 9 or 200 Mbit/s.

Just out of curiosity Michel, what is the highest average bit rate a three hour long movie should have?

Reports are:
Ghost story, suspense, Dances-Sushmita Sen, Playful -Diya Mirza, Salman Khan, Bad reviews.

Remember NAGINA suspense and ghost like story; “Film Information” or perhaps “Trade Guide” said:

First day report: Weak movie. Loser.
After 1 week: Loser in cities. May recover cost from B centers.
After 2 weeks: Hit. May gross 50 Lakh per territory.
After 4 weeks: May gross aprox 1 crore per territory.
A few weeks later: It has crossed 1.5 crore per territory and still going strong.
LATER REPORT: Still going strong. No one can predict how much it will gross.

I want to see TKNBP in theatre in DTS or DD.

I concur with you RANA ji on this one!! Masala flicks have their own place(NO BRAINER)!! like popcorn MUMMY RETURN!! man!! movie was a non stop roller coaster ride!!
I can not compare hindi movies, esp when they get inspired from a western flick!! I did enjoy a lONG KISS GOOD NIGHT!for its action and story plot was fine too!! Esp I was really impressed with GINA DAvIS's transformation from a house wife to a SPY!!
But whenever i saw a hindi version, masalatized!! the results are awefull!e.g wedding singer, parent trap, ajnabee etc etc!! whatever they butcher a decent ,coherent plot into an INDECENT,INCOHERENT, and even RIDICULOUS version!! It really amazes me!!One movie i would like to see HINDIZED was EXCESS BAGGAGE!! with Alicia Silverstone, I thought it would make a typical masala hindi film very well? :vsneaky: I dont know how the lplot has been butchered in TNBP case till i see the movie!! :vsneaky:

I have sometimes found that stopping the DVD when the initial ads are being displayed and then pressing the 'MENU' button takes control to the main menu of the feature presentation. It has worked consistently with many DVDs. You may want to try that.
