Exactly. When we pay $ 20 - $ 30 for PAL to NTSC converted DVDs.

BEI isn't producing as good DVDs as they did in their heyday, we do not disagree on this, but I wouldn't condemn them to Indian DVD Hell just yet. They gave the Punjabi film Hawaayein better treatment than Eros gives their hit Hindi films. This doesn't cancel out Kismat or KHKN, but they have an edge, however slight, over the others.

They're doing the best they can with the prints supplied, but they can't do much to spruce up a damaged or faded print. The blame in these cases goes mostly to the producers for not keeping their films properly or just giving them the first print available, but perhaps BEI should also consider not releasing a DVD at all if they can only get a bad print.

BTW, what was that AB/Vinod Khanna film BEI released a while ago? I believe it was a Manmohan Desai film.

If, Kohra is a bad print, I wish you had told me 10 days ago.

the print is not bad it is decent blemishes are minimal and mostly unnoticable so we cant blame the print here its just no restoration was done you could hear hissing and poping sounds the video is not stable swaying is incessive and very distracting you are better off sitting on a swing and synchronize your movements to the swaying video to get some sort of stabillity picture is very soft and some scenes are very dark there are scenes when you think you are watching a negative i could go on and on but i let you watch and report the rest can you confirm that there are pauses at the reel ends and not signs of freezing another bothersome annoyance :D

Ah, yes, Kohinoor's another one. I don't remember if there was hissing, but the print was cut. The credits were mostly missing and there are one or two frames missing every so often.

Aren't Kohra, Bees Saal Baad, and Kismat from the same producer? Maybe that explains the similarities in DVD quality. I'll have to look at BSB again.

Interesting!, BSB and Kohraa are from Geetanjali Pictures, Kismat from Pride of Asia Films. So lets take BEI off the hook and blame the Banners for not protecting the films or negatives!

Got KOHRAA.

IT'S PAL to NTSC FIELD AVERAGED.

BTW, bit rate hovers around 7 - 9 mbps. But, what good does high bit rate do, when the process is flawed.

I would not call it a DEI/ BEI standard DVD and hence will be an exception for any comparison, like 4 or 5 other DEI/ BEI Field Averaged DVDs.

BTW, my thoughts on: "some scenes too dark, with not much visible and weird noise/ sounds----"

Being a horror film, many scenes, as per the situation, are lit by keroscene lamp and the flame fluctuates with wind. You can't expect to see much in this situation and scene brightness is suppose to change, frame to frame, as per illumination. I'm not sure if weird noise/ hiss or whatever is part of the plot or real noise.

I consider Field Averaging as a flawed process for Digital disc.
EVP (Hindi DVDs) type PAL to NTSC conversion 'withought mixing frames' (i.e. without field averaging) is better if it has to be PAL to NTSC converted. (every 6th frame/ field is a repeat frame/ field).
