arsh,
like u and many others here I was also obssessed about seeing Progressive 24fps DVDs among South India DVds. That can happen only if Mantra or Prasad labs have the right equipment in India as financially, it's impossible to get authoring done here in US. Initially, both of them mistook me for asking for progressive video like in HDTV format. I think Prasad got it right due to pressure from Ayangran for 24fps. They used their regulat NTSC Telecine but got a new MPEQ-2 encoder which can do 24fps conversion(3:2 pull-down I guess). That made them bring us Kaaka Kaaka as their first 24fps encoded DVD. From what I understood from them, that's how they will do all others from now on(maybe at little extra cost). They already did one old movie for iDream. I can confirm about it once I test the check disk I got from them. I saw and it already but need to figure how to check if it's 24fps with my new DVD Player.

I think Mantra in HYD may be able to get this one if they upgrade their MPEG-2 encoder or they may even have it already.

I happened to see Kaaka Kaaka yesterday and it was an excellent movie. I ended up reading subtitles most of the time but I enjoyed it. The video has little grain probably because of all the audio tracks(DD 5.1, DTS, directors commentary), heavyily animated menus, etc took up quite a disk space and probably require heavy compression on video.

I hope we will see all new YRF's DVDs done at Prasad to be 24fps too!

I don't expect Eros, YRF, etc. to regularly take advantage of progressive capability. No word on Eros, but I bet YRF will do it only occasionally just like they have in the past with K3G, Zubeidaa, and Mohabbatein.

I hope Ayngaran will think twice about putting DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1 in the future, since it takes away quite a bit of space for the video, especially on 2.5 hour films. If Ayngaran released separate versions like EVP did with Okkadu, perhaps the video on Kaaka Kaaka could have been more detailed. The bitrate meter usually showed a fairly low reading.

Bit rate for Kaaka Kaaka was an avarage 5Mbit/Sec which is not bad...also if you have the correct progressive set-up then you can increase the quality by another 30% on top of the anamorphic quality increase.

KAAKHA KAAKHA DVD Mini-Review

I finally found a DVD of Kaakha Kaakha in one store in Jackson Hights, Queens, New York, since I couldn't find it at all from any respectable Indian online DVD stores....

I have only watched parts of the movie so far and the DVD is AWSOME! The video quality is very good, with some scratches here and there, which is typical of most Bollywood DVDs but overall a very clear and crisp image on my 34 inch Sony Widescreen XBR tv...8 out of 10 points!! (Please note that the Ayngaran logo pops up in the bottom right corner at the beginning of each song, but it goes away eventually)

The Audio is the best out of any Indian DVD, even better than Columbia's Region 1 Mission Kashmir DVD. The sound totally envelopes the whole room with great atmsosphere and surround sounds. There is a good balance between action/singing scenes and dialogue scenes in which I don't have to turn the volume up and down on the remote. It's a very professionally made audio sountrack - definitely audio reference quality of Indian movies, the Lord of the Rings DVD audio of Indian movies! 10 out of 10 points!

The English subtitles are pretty clear and follow grammar rules!
The Extras are plentiful with audio commentary, trailers, posters, making of, interviews(In English), etc...9 out of 10 points!

An excellent DVD package, I just hope the movie is just as good as I will watch the whole thing tomorrow!

[B]

Dear Sir [toddly6666]

I found your comments about Kakkha Kakkha DVD. I am surprised that you could not find the DVD in any online store. A simple google search will give you list of online stores. The only issue is the name of the movie is kakka kakka and the DVD is titled as Kakkha Kakkha. So if you searched on Kakkha Kakkha, it might have redirected you to kakka kakka search.

Please visit our site http://www.dvdunlimitedonline.com. You can buy Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam/Hindi DVDs online. FYI, we now started taking pre-order for Boys DVD [expected by end of this month].

Thanks

Hello Guys,

I know nothing abt sound systems, and formatts. I have a question for u guys. My dvd player has the sign of DOLBY DIGITAL and DTS. But I am not able to play KAKHA KAKHA in DTS sound version? Y is that?? My sound system 500watts phillps has only the sign of DOLBY DIGITAL and I can't hear any voice if I put the DVD on DTS audio. What is it I need to hear DTS sound quality?? Do I need a new DVD Player (the one I have has the logo of DTS and DOLBY)? Or do I need any other pluging?? Kindly Reply.

BTW I saw the movie KAKHA KAKHA. A great movie, with nice music and back ground scores. If the villian and hero was some macho guys it would have been better.

I ordered Boys from dvdunlimitedonline. Just to share some info I asked my friend to buy Kaakha Kaakha and Digital IT Vol 16 from Ayngaran Canada and got both for $16 canadian each. They are having a sale. I thought it was a great deal.

The dts sound will play only on DVD Players that are connected to DTS capable Audio Systems or your DVD Player must have a built-in DTS decoder.
