Munnabhai MD-A sequel?
So pleased are producers Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Raju Hirwani with the success of Munnabhai MBBS that they are planning a sequel to the film likely to be titled Munnabhai MD. The idea germinated when Chopra got an email from a fan that went on to suggest what course the story should take. It was further discussed at a party thrown by Chopra. Incidentally, this was the first party thrown by Chopra for the success of his film. Hirani later revealed to the media that no decision was taken whether Munnabhai MBBS would be called Munnabhai MD. He also added, "We have so much material left that it is enough to make a sequel. And I'm sure Sanjay Dutt will jump at the idea and he will give his all the dates required to make the film," Hirwani said.

No! no sequel please!

Look what happened to Hathyar: Vaastav II and Nagina II :ohyeh:

Munna Bhai MBBS will always be remembered as a good entertainer, I hope they dont release a sequel to give the original a bad name!!!

I was thinking the same, we dont want hatyar as vastav 2..

muna bhaii was kool, flick, besides luke warm music and gracy singh!..arshad warsi was good!

I wish, director would have opted for his Mission kashmir, sanju heroine, Sonali kulkarni! :baaa:

Filming is EXCELLENT and film has very POSH look kinda Vidu standard!

watched munna bhai and i thought it was excellent.. a sequal wud be great if it was done right... especially if we get a chance to see more of Arshad Warsi.. he is too under-rated and i think he should be signed up for more movies.. his comedy style is unbeatable!!

As for Hathyaar.. that has got to be one of the worst movies i have seen in a while... it was awful and ruined did not do Vaastav any justice....

Exactly! Indian film directors shouldnt even try making a sequel as it will be a slap in their own face. The sequels never do justice to the originals

How did the film compare to Patch Adams? I didn't see it, but it looked really hokey.

It has merely scraped the surface of Patch Adams taking the basic premise of an older guy going to Med School, creating havoc and curing patients with humour/love. Patch Adams is a classic in its own right and MBMBBS comes no where close IMHO. Both are in their own categories, but Patch Adams outweighs MBMBBS.

Kinda confirmed:Munnabhai LLB not MD!! thnx

A sequel to Munnabhai MBBS

By IndiaFM News Bureau, January 07th, 2004 - 1230 hrs IST

With the tremendous response Munnabhai MBBS is receiving even in its third week (contrary to biased reports), the makers of the film are planning a sequel to the film. This time around Munnabhai will be point out the wicked ways of lawyers in our society. With such a theme would the sequel be called as Munnabhai LLB?

More on Munnabhai, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra has sold out the remake rights of his film to south producer and the owner of Gemini TV, Manohar Prasad for a whopping amount. Though there were 11 producers in queue to buy the rights, Chopra chose Prasad because as a part of the contract, he will still have 20% back-end share of the profit of the film and will also be able to suggest creative inputs for the remake versions. The film will be remade in Tamil and Telegu languages.

++I agree Patch adam inspiration, but u dont know, what will click to hindi audience crazy bones!

By Our Correspondent ©2004 Bollyvista.com

We already informed you of the sequel (releasing this year) of 'Munnabhai MBBS', titled 'Munnabhai MD'. Now Vidhu Vinod Chopra has sold the Telugu and Tamil rights of his Mumbai-centric hit for a whopping amount. Kamal Haasan is considering featuring in the Tamil version while a number of Telugu stars have been approached for Sanjay Dutt's role.

It's 'Munnabhai L.L.B.' Now

By Taran Adarsh, January 21st, 2004 - 0930 hrs IST

Soon after MUNNABHAI M.B.B.S. was declared a hit, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani were in the process of starting a sequel to the film, titled MUNNABHAI M.D. Reportedly, the sequel was to feature the same cast - Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani.

However, the project in question - MUNNABHAI M.D. - has been dropped, although the makers plan to continue making films in the MUNNABHAI series. In an exclusive conversation with this writer, Rajkumar Hirani confirmed the change of plans.

To quote Hirani verbatim: “We've decided to drop the project [MUNNABHAI M.D.], mainly because it was looking like a mere business proposition. It gave an impression that we were attempting to capitalise on the success of MUNNABHAI M.B.B.S.

“Instead, we're starting a film called MUNNABHAI L.L.B. This time around, we've decided to attempt a film keeping lawyers in mind. Actually, courtrooms and the legal system would make for an interesting subject. You keep hearing stories all the while. Even Sanju [Sanjay Dutt] keeps narrating incidents that may be incorporated in the story.

“The star cast of MUNNABHAI L.L.B. will be the same as MUNNABHAI M.B.B.S. - Sanju, Arshad and Boman. As of now, we're still working on the script and a clearer picture will only emerge once we're through with the writing.”

Meanwhile, praise for MUNNABHAI M.B.B.S. and Rajkumar Hirani's abilities continue to flow from all quarters. Reportedly, the Roshans - Rakesh and Hrithik - seemed impressed with the film and the two sides [Chopra, Hirani - Roshans] even had a meeting to discuss a new project altogether.

“It's true that Rakesh-ji and Hrithik loved the film and they did speak highly to Vidhu. But I haven't met them yet,” Hirani sets the record straight.

He continues, “I don't want to rush into anything. Even when I edited films, I didn't want to rush into film-making till I was ready with the bound script. Post-MUNNABHAI M.B.B.S, there've been plenty of offers, but like I said before, I just don't have the temperament to direct three/four films simultaneously.” [/i]

Everybody wants to be ‘Munnabhai'

By Moviebuzz
Saturday, 17 January , 2004, 13:05

Everbody wants to be Munnabhai the lovable don of the Hindi film Munnabhai- M.B.B.S. All senior stars like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna and Venkatesh are after the film, as they feel that the film will click in Telugu.
The Hindi producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra has sold the remake rights to Anandi Arts for nearly Rs 1.75 Crore and made a killing. The producers initially wanted Ravi Teja to do the remake but now all big heroes started showing an interest in the project.

Is clear that the producers will not do a resale of the rights so that the stars own production companies can make it. He wants to make it on his own terms. So the next few days will decide who will be the Munnabhai in Telugu.
