I think Naushad is a legend. He did 'Guddu' which was a disapointment, but the film was worst. Shahrukh, Manisha and director Prem Lalwani ought to be ashamed of creating such a dud! As for Naushad, you can't realy blame him if the film was so un-inspiring. BTW, 'Guddu' was not his son's film.
He also gave music to 2 other films in those days, 'Awaaz De Kahan Hai' (Avinash Wadhawan and Shika Swaroop) and 'Teri Payal Mere Geet' (Govinda and Meenakshi). The later was directed by Rehman Naushad, his son. I think the music for both this films are next to great. Just listen to Lata's, 'Kya Kahen...' and S.P Bala's, 'Tumse Ek Aarz Hai...' and you will, I am sure re-think! Naushad is one of the last great composers, Indain cinema have. Its great to see that he still has the energy to compose music.
You know folks why Naushad's music cant make that mark ( or for that matter O.P.Nayyar also)..the reason being one main ingredient isnt available in their music and that is a person....sorry a legend by the name of Late. Mohammed RAFI.
Rafi and Naushad was like Sugar in Milk. Remove the Sugar, the taste oft he milk automatically goes away. Remember how pathetic OP Nayyars music was in Nischay when he had Amit Kumar sing those songs....
Both these music directors thrived on Md.Rafi for their sustenance, added to that Lata "Bai" isnt as young as she was when Naushad composed his gems !
I frankly Love Naushad for his gems he composed for BAIJU BAWRA...and MUGHAL-e-AZAM .... ("O Duniya ke Rakhwale ..sun dard bhare mere naale.."I dont think anyone could have sung that song more effectively than RAFI..)
My suggestion folks why this film might just make it and why it will be different from Guddu is that , TAJ MAHAL will have more of a classical overture and not some modern Funy beats ("Dil hai pyare zara dekh toh le , maal hai pyare zara dekh toh le")
