WEDDING OF THE YEAR - KARISMA KAPOOR

Karisma Kapoor, the Indian actress who has tantalised millions with her suggestive dances and powerful acting, married a car dealer yesterday after a whirlwind romance that has captivated the country. Dozens of Bollywood stars attended the Bombay wedding, and about 60 chefs prepared a variety of foods. The groom, Sanjay Kapur, works in his father’s car-parts business, which has annual earnings of about £48 million. Kapoor’s engagement a year ago to Abhishek Bachchan, the son of Amitabh Bachchan, India’s most popular actor, was a major media event. When the engagement was cancelled a couple of months later, with just weeks to go before the wedding, fans were stunned. Kapoor, 28, and Mr Kapur’s engagement last month again shocked the nation. While the pair claim they are deeply in love, the marriage was unusual for Bollywood because it was arranged by the two families. Kapoor is currently starring in the television series Karishma - A Miracle of Destiny.. - The Scotsman

It was a very good party. Food was excellent. I eat so much I could hardly walk to the bathroom. we contined the party to well past midnight. (Thats me the bloke behind the man in the blue shirt in the picture of Karishma and Sanj)

I still can not see what Karishma saw in Sanj.

Anway Sanj is the grandson (maternal) of Raunaq Singh who is the founding father of the Raunaq Group which includes Apollo tyres and a few other business subs.

I heard they had a traditional Sikh wedding. Is Karisma a Sikh or is Sanjay? I has previously thought the Kapoors were Hindus from Peshawar...not that it matters much.

I was only joking Sanj is a nice fellow and has good personality. It was sad that his first marriage did not last but I am sure he will make a go of this one.

It was Sikh weddng because Raunaq Singh (maternal grandad of Sanj) is Sikh. Anyhow who cares they are married and happy lets hope they enjoy married life and have lots of kids.

As for my happiness. I am always happy. It is great winding people like you up and having fun.

As for the Punjabi connection all the great Bollywood stars have some Punjabi link. Even Amitabh Bachan has a Punjabi link through his mothers family.

Any idea folks who dumped who in the original Karishma-Abhishek pair ?

I heard a rumor that Karishma dumped Abhishek 'cos he was all thanda thanda in the box office and not garam garam as her ! Not to be racist here ... but doesnt that reflect her genes from her mom :D (Babita Shivdasani :bash: ) ?

Ah yes the Punjabi link, AB's mother was actually Sikh also, and both Bobby and Sunny Deol have a Sikh mother. I think most Bollywood stars are mostly Punjabi, Tamil, Marathi and Bengali.

I had read that the Kapoors were originally from Peshawar (now in Pak), and were Pathans.

What I hear about Sanjay is that he is into guys more than girls, and that this whole wedding is only of convenience, something cooked up between Babita and Sanjay's mother. If Babita has controlled every aspect of Karishma's life so far, it only makes sense for her to have decided where Karishma gets married. By the way the Kapoors are and have always been Hindus even from before partition and yes they are originally from Peshawar. Sanjay's family including his maternal grand father Raunaq Singh are all Sikhs, thus the Sikh wedding.

Damm... ek Sanjay Doosre Sanjay ke baare mein criticize kar raha hai :) ... No Sanjay feeling at all...

But the next point validates my assertion.. that its Babita "Shivdasani" who is running the show here... bechari Karishma Kapoor... I wonder what song she will sing now ?... (Oi amma Oi amma kya karta hai,,, ladka hoke ladki se kyon darta hai :D )
