I've just seen a decent DVD copy of Battle Royale 2 late last night, and man this is one film you guys have got to see...

While the premise is a tad predictable and not as original in scope with the first film, its still makes for excellent viewing and is perhaps one of the better action-popcorn films this year.

It brings back the two kids, Shuya and Noriko, who survived the first battle on the Island. Now the government, who has branded them as Terrorists, wants payback and sends out a new group of schoolkids with the same rules (Neck Braces etc...) on the mainland to find and kill the two.

Despite the high-amounts of violence (I’m sure the BBFC will make some cuts for the UK cinema release next year) I really loved this film and is almost akin to the Aliens sequel by James Cameron. Don't listen to the critics who have all trashed this film, watch and be prepared for the ultimate battle...

The Director's cut SP ED is set to come out on Japan Region 2 in Dec 2003!

Is there a good DVD of the first one? A friend of mine rented it, but the quality wasn't great, and it had permanent Japanese subtitles.

There’s been a few releases of Battle Royale on DVD not sure which one is best - one we got in the UK were relatively poor. Other countries DVDs are listed here;

..check under ‘original’ and ‘special’ versions.

There is only one perfect dvd of Battle Royale to get out of the many NTSC and PAL versions of this film:

It is the TARTAN ASIA EXTREME NTSC 5.1 VERSION.

This version is a UK dvd made for NTSC players.

You can buy it online at http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID.2388/qx/details.htm

Ive spent the most money (over 80 doallars) on this movie trying out at least 3 dvds, and this is by far the best overall dvd concerning dvd quality with extras. There are other versions with alternate ending and more extras but the video and audio quality is not as good as this version that Im recommending...

Check out dvd comparison reviews of all the different dvd versions of Battle Royale at:

I own the Korean DTS DVD of said film, but this NTSC version you speak of is enticing. I saw the trailer of BR2, and it didn't look as appealing as the first one. Still, I will check it out.
