The promos of Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi's PINJAR, which went on air last week, have made people sit up.

But the interesting development is that 20th Century Fox has acquired the all-India distribution rights of the film. "That's true," Dwivedi tells me, "Since PINJAR is produced by a corporate house [Lucky Star], it makes even more sense to deal with a corporate house for the distribution of the film."

Dwivedi continues, "Dealing with ten different distributors for the Indian territory can prove a trying experience. You have to pamper every individual's ego and bow down to their demands, even if you don't subscribe to their thought process."

Seems like Fox is slowly making its presence felt on the domestic scene, by joining hands with Ramgopal Varma and Bohras for the production of EK HASINA THI earlier and acquiring the distribution rights of PINJAR now.

Incidentally, while EK HASINA THI has now been shifted to October 24, PINJAR is being readied for release on October 10. Two movies in one month for Fox!

I bet Eros releases the DVDs of Pinjar and Ek Hasina Thi.

As for Baghban, it doesn't matter who releases it. All the DVD companies that release new films will make crap DVDs.

Watch for MUSIC RELEASE, I am confident, Gulzar's Lyrics and UTTAM SINGH's capability to create RUSTIC, PERIOD flavour will compliment..

Music will be RELEASED in GOLDEN TEMPLE AMRATSAR near WAGAH BORDER!

By Taran Adarsh

While on PINJAR, the music launch of the film will be the first of its kind! Since the story of the film is set during the partition of India in 1947, the makers of the film have decided to go to the Indo-Pak border of Wagah and interact with the Pakistanis.

"It's a three-day event," Aditya Shastri of 20th Century Fox tells me, "The music of the film will be released at Golden Temple in Amritsar on Day 1. The next day, the entire cast of the film -- Urmila, Manoj Bajpai, Sanjay Suri, Priyanshu, Sandali Sinha, Isha Koppikar along with the makers, music director Uttam Singh and lyricist Gulzar -- will proceed to Wagah and interact with people from across the border. Next morning, everyone will head for Delhi to address a press conference."

According to Shastri, PINJAR will prove to be "the motion picture event" when it releases. "The passion with which it has been made will make people sit up and notice it. It's a film that transcends all barriers and boundaries and should appeal to all Indians and Pakistanis worldwide," he says.

Pinjar is invited to KARACHI FESTIVAL, along with BHATTS!

'Pinjar' in Pak?

By Taran Adarsh, September 23rd, 2003 - 0900 hrs IST

PINJAR is in news once again. After its music launch at the Indo-Pak border, Wagah, there's talk that this Urmila-Manoj Bajpai starrer has been invited by the authorities of Kara Film Festival, an annual event held in Karachi. Reportedly, the film will be screened for an august gathering later this year.

However, Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi doesn't rule out the possibility. "I was told that I would get a call from the Festival authorities, but I've yet to hear from them. We will take a decision then, whether or not to take the film to Pakistan," he says.

There's talk that PAAP has also been invited for Kara Film Festival. However, Pooja Bhatt, its maker, was unavailable for comment.

**ali, or UL, can u pls join these 2 threads..

"Fox has acquired right for Pinjar..."

What does this mean for us as customers? The DVD is unfortunately released by Eros so I do not understand what the above means for us. ???

Tehzeeb and Ek Hasina Thi were also "acquired".. :keh:

this might be a bit off-topic but speaking of "Asoka" PAL version, what would be the best uk site to order that from? I live in Boston, and I've never ordered anything from uk retailers before. But, I heard that sites like cdguru.com are not good. How much extra would it cost, including customs, etc. And, how long does it take?

I bought the NTSC version recently and it's truly shit. I see those combing lines throughout the movie, and there's also sound sync problems midway in the movie, when on 5.1 (its ok with 2.0, but who wants to listen to that), it's really a pathetic dvd. I will also probably order "Fiza" spark. Please let me know. Again I apologize for going off-topic.
