I have not watched Saathiya yet. But I love the songs and that's a only reason I'm interested in this DVD (and that's true about most of the Hindi movies I own  )

I was borrowed a 3 in 1 Saathiya/Devdas/Hero DVD from my friend. He got it from India. It looks like it is ripped off from the original YRF Saathiya DVD. It is Anamorphic. It looked like they have reduce the bit rate to 2.5 -3Mbps

I watch all my movies in front projection setup. 106" diagonal 16:9 screen.
As I said earlier I have not watched the movie yet but I watched all the songs.
First thing I noticed that I cannot concentrate on the picture - it is too shaky and fuzzy during motion. And in most of the songs there is lot of motion and camera movements. It made me almost sick. :sus: I have watch many movies on my projector with good Hindi DVDs (eg. KNPH, Rangila, DCH, Lagaan and even non-anamorphic Sarfarosh and soft looking Devdas (the original one not 3 in 1)) and I did not have any problem watching motion in those. On 106" you do have some problem concentraing in fast motion but it is nothing compared to what I saw in Saathiya.

I tried the DVD on my 43" TV and I did not get sick but fuzziness during motion sequences was still there.

I searched this forum and it looks like the NTSC DVD is converted from the original PAL DVD.

Many people are saying that is one of the best DVDs they have seen .

So now the question is - whether the shaky /fuzzy -ness is due to lower bit rate or the original DVD itself suffers from the same due to the PAL to NTSC conversion?
Should I go for the original DVD or just forget about it. :hmm:

Before jumping to expensive SAATHIYA DVD, try 2in1 DVD. It should have higher bit rate. Most likely, it still won't be much better PQ, nor will be the original.

I wish, original PAL DVD is a reality. At least we can get our hands on proper video which has not gone through system conversion, root cause of all the problems in my opinion. Don't know, why do they foolishly telecine in PAL when they know that DVD is going to be NTSC. They routinely do 'system conversion' with a press of a button. It's easy for them. They don't know any more.

Colors are vibrant and they have small TVs, not the 106 inch one that you have. Other fine PQ problems that you noticed even on small TV, they either don't notice or don't care about them.

Should I go for the original DVD or just forget about it.

I don't know if any one has done any side by side comparison. Best is to rent it and decide. It'll be great if you tell us what you find??

I hope that was an option for me. But here in chicago, all grocery stores carry pirated copies before the original is release to max out their revenues. When finally the original is released, they just put it for sale. They don't rent it out. They say they cannot afford it since majority of folks have already rented it.

Anyway, so that's the reason I'm asking if the original is good one, at least better that what I have, without excessive fuzziness during motion sequences. You don't need 106" screen for that, as I have mention before, you can see it on 43-inch TV too.

I watched the original dvd on my big screen too. I think the PQ is not bad. I didn’t see any fuzziness. I am sure some thing went wrong with the 3 in 1.

Unless you can find it for under $10, stick with one of the pirates. Saathiya is nowhere near the best dvd so don't bother wasting your hard earned money on YRF crap. The PQ is average at best and I seriously doubt that getting the original will solve your problems.
