Most of the their dvds look pretty ok in a 32 inches tv. Dont know what it looks like in big screen tvs though.

K3G is probably YRF's best release. On my 35" 4:3 TV I noticed an overall lack of detail. It wouldn't surprise me if they did some filtering to make the 3 hour film fit on one disc. Otherwise the quality was pretty good.

Almost any dvd looks good on a 32" or below tv. This rule is not only for Indian dvds but for Hollywood ones too. On our 42" 16x9 hdtv most Indian movies looks really soft, dark with lack of details. Usually Ayngaran dvds looks sharp but the colors are really dull. The Gangs of New York dvd looks really nice and sharp on a 27" tv but the playback on a 42" shows tons of EE and lack of details. K3G's color saturation is really nice but like Dragun said its has soft quality to it.

U might say that, but still, better than MOHABTAEN, in same regard, u might call PROG DEI DVDS, mostly SOFT too!!

Why do people at Zulm.net think that a all DVDs unless done by DEI or BEI are CRAP? I said this once and I'll say it again it is only the people on zulm.net that think that all Indian DVDs are crap and etc.

If you're here at zulm, you probably care at least a little bit about video quality. I'm sure most people who buy every new Indian DVD either:

a) Don't care much

or

b) Don't watch many DVDs from Western companies so they can't compare

FWIW, even my dad, who isn't a big videophile, noticed how bad Eros' Devdas looked. And we don't have an expensive, huge screen highly calibrated TV. It's not even 16:9.

If American and European DVDs were consistently Eros or YRF quality, there would be quite an uproar. Especially if they were freezing all the time :)

In the original post, there was no mention of price. Just that since it's a yashraj DVD it is "crap."

out!!!!!

That's my fault punjabimunda. I called Yashraj DVDs crap. BUT I have to say I don't own the K3G Yashraj DVD or any of their recent ones. The ones I have are crap and I bought them a while ago, maybe they have improved over time, I guess I can't comment on that since I don't own any of the recent ones.

I agree in that they are not crap by Indian DVD standards. They offer pretty average quality, but as mentioned for the price they charge on the movies, it would be pretty fair to call them crap.

Imagine if a Toyota Camry sold for $70,000; I think most people would call it crap because it's not worth that much. I would be okay with the YRF releases if they were in the $10-15 range.

KSingh, Punjabimunda...and others who think YRF dvds are good, then maybe you need to get a second opinion .. I have been following the discussion and would conclude that except for a few YRF dvds..namely K3G, KKHH and DDLJ (even though it was panned universally here on zulm)

As Rana has pointed out, YRF dvds would have been great had they been encoded in a PAL format ( a similar analogy can be drawn from the ASOKA - R2 dvd )... Its one of the best Indian dvds ever made.... thats cos it was tele-cined in the UK and a dvd was made acc to UK TV specifications.,.. aka PAL...
However when the same dvd was released in North America, using the UK master and you can see what kinda quality the dvd had...
A very similar thing happens here with the YRF dvds ( or any other non DEI dvds)
They do their telecine process in India, as a result of which they have to convert that master to NTSC here in north america....That screws up the whole process...
If that flaw can be rectified.... trust me, you will yourself have a second opinion !

MF, i dont mind paying a good price for good quality... but charging me 20$ for a shit dvd ...nope... I would rather get it Free !

If you go back and read my original post you will see that i called YR DVDs "decent and watchable." I've never said that they are reference quality DVDs. IMHO, YR might not be reference quality but they are certainly not "crap" either.

The price thing, i agree with everyone. They are way over priced and never go on sale.

out!!!!

Hmmm decent and watchable are again relative terms.. It all depends on where you are watching the movie... If someone has only a computer (HTPC or HDTV- digital) then surely the movie becomes unwatchable... for all the reasons discussed in previous posts.

I would say, their DVDs should be the best ! considering the price they charge for their dvds... They should put more effort into their dvds.,..(at least the tele-cine operation)...
By cutting costs there, they are in fact screwing up the whole process.. justifying the 2-in-1's and N-in-1 versions of their films.... which I have no qualms in supporting, as their original product is itself a shit quality...

Please dont tell me that a Brand new film like Saathiya didnt deserve a top-notch Telecine process ! (Instead we end up with a field-averaged piece or CRAP :d ) ... That goes for all the dvd companies out there... (excluding BEI ! .. Disco Dancer was an exception )...

KSingh if you have any questions / comments do post them here ! Justify ur observations with valid facts and/or proof !

Any idea if KMG DVD will be authored by Super Digital, like K3G. K3G quality DVD, telecine in USA, direct film to NTSC, progressive, DD5.1, anamorphic is what we expect from Yashraj. Why Not.

K3G, Mohabbatein, DDLJ, KKHH, DTPH (anamorphic version), all were from Yashraj too and I'm sure KMG is equally big film (& perhaps equally big a hit).

That should be DTPH the second (anamorphic version !).. Well if its authored by SuperDigital... then there is a chance of it being released in a proper format !

exactly. the fact is, prasad will probably do the dvd so we can expect the poor quality witnessed on the saathiya dvd.

More like a worn print that has done the rounds of Mumbai multiplexes, the cheapest telecine machines available and a technician that has never heard of 'progressive'.
