This 2 dvd set will have in total 60 songs, which will include one song from each forthcoming DVDs; Junglee and April Fool.

However I have been told by BEI that while the picture quality of Junglee & April Fool song will be similar to Disco Dancer, the actual film DVDs that will release within next month will be high quality. BEI have decided to go back to thier old methods after the Disco Dancer problem.

Already the recently released Parvarish DVD has excellent picture quality aking to previous releases, so we can be sure that Junglee and April Fool will also be excellent, as permitting by the quality of the negs.

Junglee, which was originally written off by BEI a couple of years ago, had come across a decent surviving 35mm print of the film. After extensive testing and cleaning the print is now in BEI possession. This is the cleanest print of Junglee in exsistance...only after many years the film will now be for the first time seen on home video in the highest possible quality....Good Show.

They are curently re-working on Sadma (Anamorphic 1.85:1 - Mono), and on Kabhie Haan Kabhie Naa (Anamorphic 2.35:1 - Mono), Yeh Mohabaat Hai (USA only - Anamorphic 2.35:1 - Dolby Digital 5.1)...which feature excellent negative quality. The one year old film Yeh Mohabaat Hai was picked up for a dirt cheap price so don't think for a min that BEI are going back to new movies...they are in the classics game for good :)

PS...the Khaata Mettha DVD, that was panned by many in this forum, was like that due to the quality of the negatives, and not the encoding. The actual DVD encoding was always within DEI standards. Remember not to confuse the quality of the DVD encoding with the quality of the negs...

This is good to hear. Just one question about the song DVD, does it have all old songs or will some new film songs be integrated as well. Other than that, knowing that they are going back to old methods, can't wait for Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa.

Sunny no one complained abt the DVd encoding process... but I (and others) complained for the media in which they transferred the print !.. It started giving errors just from the first play itself !.. so much so I had to replace the dvd.. I dunno how the new version will live upto !

Not to harp on the point Sunny but in a not too subtle way we were bemoaning the fact that BEI is reluctant to use gold media. :D

What is this April Fool film? And shouldn't Sadma be 1.66:1? To anamorphically encode 1.66:1, you windowbox it within the 1.77:1 frame. "A Hard Day's Night" from Miramax and "Army of Darkness" from Anchor Bay are examples of this.

Call me a cynic, but why would BEI do two different transfers?

A film by Biswajeet & Saira Banu .... Had that famous Rafi song..
"April Fool Banaya toh Unko Gussa Aaya... Ho mera Kya Kasoor zamane ka kasoor jisne dastoor banaya "

As for why BEI is doing 2 transfers.... no clue... maybe following the lead by Ayngaran... releasing BABA for the impatient ones and later on for the Patient ones

BEi did two transfers; the first version was just to see what the negs quality are like before it was shipped out to the USA.

Also Sadma was shot in 1.85:1 ratio, and I would know as I had spoken to the director to find out the correct aspect ratio for BEI (Hindi) and for Ayngaran (Tamil) versions due out soon...

Another pathetic reason to excuse the bad quality of DVDs. If it’s not piracy being thrown as a excuse for releasing bad quality DVDs for new movies, its bad quality prints and sources for old films. End of the day – its amateurs running the field, and it still amazes me how many people fall for these pitiable excuses.

:hmm: no wonder Indian DVDs continue to spiral downhill if people are still believing the bullshit being fed.
