guys i just got watched the movie and found that it didn't really live up to my expectation... It's a pretty decent film, with some amazing acting by Urmila but i found that everybody was wasted in a story that really didn't go nowhere. With such a big starcast, everybody actually just sat around and stared at each other (particularly towards the final 30 mins). Everyone was wasted... particularly Rekha, Tanuja and Fardeen Khan (in his worst performance EVER!).

Don't get me wrong, this is still an ok film... however it is nowhere near the masterpiece that Company was, nor was it anywhere near the genius of Kaun.

The main problem for me was that the story was EXTREMELY SLOW PACED!!!! the film was approximately one hour and 50 mins yet nothing much happens in it, and well the final resolution of the mystery has been seen in SO MANY movies prior to this one... Trust me guys, there's nothing really original to this film.

As for Varma films, I would say that i think its possibly better than Jungle and Satya.

And here's my fav Verma films in order:

1. Company
2. Daud
3. Rangeela
4. Kaun
5. Mast

Bhoot would probably be placed number 6 on that list.

oh yeah guys watch out for horrible sound in woodside cinemas.... at times i heard a lot of distortion in the background music and then some dialogue became muted aswell! I heard dialogues (such as Ajay talkin) going from loud to mute and then loud again - it was like his voice was breaking up - same with everyone else....

but OH MY GOD, the picture looked absolutely fantastic!! The print was so clean and crisp and the colours were amazing. I doubt the DVD will look anything close to it....

I wish i could get the picture from woodside and the sound from my own receiver at home... Then i would have the best of both worlds!!

and arshbhai, what's wrong with Mast? It was a stupid yet fun flick - good for entertainment.. nothing more!

Bhoot was a somewhat entertaining 2 hours, but not more than a timepass for me. I give it a C+.

<SPOILERS BELOW>

The idea of a ghost coming back to avenge its death isn't particularly original. It is B-movie material. The performances were decent. The script wasn't great. So the psychiatrist has a sick daughter, what of it? It doesn't enhance the story and it seems tacked on. Rekha enters the movie, she says how the ghosts died and who killed them. No particular development or aura around her character. Like one of the above reviews says, there are too many shots of the elevator going down the shaft, but it doesn't have any special significance. The sound mix was pretty good, and I saw a location sound mixer credit, so I assume that it used sync sound. It's not horrible, but neither is it great.

Better than Satya???

Satya is a masterpiece and imo RGV's best. You really didn't like Satya?? I'm sorry, it's just that it's the first time I'm hearing it.

I loved Mast too. RGV never goes completely wrong for me.

Not all films which credit location sound recordists actually use location sound in the final mix. Most Indian filmmakers have on location recordists to record 'guide tracks'. I'll have to watch this one to confirm. For most avid movie and home theatre enthusiasts, it should be fairly easy to distinguish location sound from ADR - especially if they listen to more quality English and other international films instead of the largely garish, attention seeking sound mix of most Indian films.

Don't get me wrong man, Satya is good, very good! It was a very well directed film with good acting and a good story. However I do think that it is overrated and is simply not the best film ever made. And especially when compared to Verma's films, I didn't find it as good as the ones I mentioned.

Company is Verma's one true masterpiece IMHO. It is arguable one of the finest movies ever made and I do think that it is my FAVOURITE gangster film EVER (even beating Scarface and Parinda).

[Taran Adarsh Mode]

It will probably do decent business in the metros, but not so great outside the metros.

[/Taran Adarsh Mode]

:)

What's weird is that several years ago I had a dream that I was all alone in an Omnimax theater and it was windy in there and the theater was shaking and I climbed up a pole to escape the witch coming at me. Similar to the one in the movie, eh?

Another comment: The false scares. The sound effects are really loud and we're supposed to think that there's a ghost, but it's only Ajay Devgan. I've seen enough horror movies to spot a fake scare. Kind of annoying to see yet another movie perpetuating that cliche.
