Is it really THAT BAD?! I mean, i think that some of us are being a little harsh here. I think we should appreciate it that we can even have official dvd's with original print. At least it's not like in India where most of the people don't even know what a dvd is. For them the best thing is a vcd. and u need like 3 of those for 1 movie. And the quality is terrible. And forget about extras or DD 5.1.! DVD's are so expensive in India....Rs. 1000-2000 each!! I'm glad i'm in the US and am able to watch movies in good clear print with digital audio....

In a word no!

DDLJ is getting some battering here. The DVD is disappointing to say the least - but it's not that bad – in fact its very watchable. I viewed it start to finish and its better than most Eros DVDs for the feature film - the content extras are OK but again transferred onto DVD shabbily and unprofessionally. Most people will be pleased with the DVD as they’ll watch it for the film and extras are just a bonus. No doubt this DVD is going to sell tons and tons it’s just a crying shame that the packing of DDLJ is covered with vibrant, colourful, sharp and detailed stills from the movie – and this is how the DVD video could have been.

Again it's not a totally bad DVD – if anything I would say its slightly above average for Indian DVD.

Hi Ali,
1) Is YRF'f DDLJG DVD is from a progressive master ??

2) Is the video quality better than its pirate ?? I don't think any pirated Indian DVDs have ever been made from progressive masters.

Thanks.

1) Yes it is - but the benefit you normally see from progressive isn’t apparent on this DVD. Seems like a badly sourced/made telecine.

2) Dunno - never seen a pirate of DDLJ. In my opinion, you'll probably find a DVD with better colours than this DVD but overall I don’t think this official DVD will come out any worse when compared to any pirate DVD in terms of detail and sharpness (but I’m here to be proved wrong by anyone).

BTW just to show how bad the colour rendition is on the DVD check these shots out;

..top image is taken with PowerDVD4 with original setting which preserves the original image as it is on the DVD. The bottom comparative image is taken with PowerDVD in Vivid mode which enhances the colours and look of the film.

Can't believe many folks have given up the battle for quality! So were just gonna except poor kind of DVD's from a company who have the finance and means to produced a professional looking disc! Lets not forget that DDLJ is prehaps one of the most profitable Indian movies of all time, and has ran on cinema for just over six years. All of that money and fans should give YRF means to produce a top class DVD.

I don't think asking for quality is being harsh.

we should contruct a pitition, I know they'll just ignore it, but maybe they might listion (and pigs fly!!!!)

Also zubeidaa dvd from YRF has problems with dark details. While colour is somewhat usually ok, I think YRF dvds always have contrast problems on their dvds.

If something was actually going to happen then I would complain. I complained to them several times. Everyone here has complained to ERO$ and showered DEI with praises. Look what happened, ERO$ is making more absolute shit DVDs and DEI is also starting to come out with crappy DVDs ie.Abhay, Bees Saal Baad.

No offense Sunny, we all definetly want better DVDs but nothing is going to change if we stop buying DVDs from them as there millions of others who will. If only 2% out of 98% of the world poplulation who watch indian movies stop buying DVDs b/c of bad quality or start complaining about quality they don't care because they have the rest of the 98% who still buy them regardless.

Just view DDLJ, have to agree - what a poor job!!

Picture is poor!!
Sound - sound effects eg open and shut doors are ok but what happened to the songs: simply degenerates and loses all middle range and dynamics - one gets better results from a pirated audio cassette or even taping the movie on VHS when played on TV.

Great film - but an unworthy DVD!!

My view - do not buy this DVD but instead overload YRF for requests for better DVDs and see if they listen and come out wish a worthy Mark II.

This is so pathetic. There are US companies (Anchor Bay, particularly) that are smaller than Yash Raj, yet produce MUCH better DVDs. If Anchor Bay can produce a good quality DVD of obscure Werner Herzog films, Yash Raj should be able to produce a good DVD of DDLJ, a superhit film. What, are the heads of the company authoring the discs themselves on their lunch break?

Is The DVD Really That Bad? Is It Unbearable To Watch Or Are People Making A Big Deal Out Of Nothing, Is It Worth Enough To Spend 22$ Or Not? Are The Extras Worthy? Are The Songs Subtitled? If Someone With Out A Big Vendetta Against YRF Can Answer Those Questions, It Will Be Appreciated. Thanks

Hey everyone,

I did not really like the cover that Yash Raj films did for the DVD of DDLJ so I went ahead a tried to design one on my own. So far I have only done the front, let me know how it is? Tell me honestly, but don't rip me apart ;)

If you would like it go ahead and download it, take care!
