hi arshbhai and everyone else. OK from the movie, I think that the video is somewhat of an improvement over other ayngaran titles. They look more colourful and less grainier now. However the video has still been processed way too much and its just TOO sharp - i guess this would be too much edge enhancement. Its definately not progressive though.

Ok the DTS sound is LOUD LOUD and LOUD and very clear. However i think this was the wrong movie to give this treatment to. First off there aren't alot of songs and they are of the nice, slow melodious kind. Nothing catchy or with alot of oomph. Definately not as good as Run, and nowhere near the greatness of Alai Payuthey. Then, there isn't a lot of sound effects either cause this is a comedy. Yeah there is one action scene, and it is handled really well - but still, this is a dialogue-driven film.

I didn't check out the DD 5.1 track, but I would imagine that it's equally effective - of course the DTS track would win out at the end.

Oh and one really nasty quibble, why did they put the movie twice on the disc set. I mean why would anyone want to have 2 copies of the same movie, on the same format, on the same package???

As for the movie it self, I liked it and found it to be very funny. However I didn't like the parts in which they tried to sympathize with Kamal Haasan's character - i think his ideologies and beliefs (and his past) should have been left off screen and the plot should have concentrated on the comedy between the two leads.

Overally Anbe Sivam is a pretty good movie, with a really decent DVD presentation and is definately worth the $20 cdn i paid for it (at Ayngaran Canada in Scarborough). I just wish that they should have put some extras on the discs instead of putting the same movie on 2 discs.

I did not see the dvd Anbe Sivam even on Ayngaran's website or any of the usual tamil dvd selling sites. Just wondering where I could buy them in the U.S?.

DD: N/A (I only listened to the DTS version)

MOVIE: 4/5 STARS

Madhevan and Kamal Hassan were excellent in their roles. The heroine (Kiran?) is cute. But the movie kinda drags in the middle during the flashbacks. Overall a well acted drama/comedy.

Btw, the one action scene with Kamal and the gundas are well done and flows nicely. Reminds me of umberlla fight scenes from Hong Kong Martial arts movies. :)
