Mani Ratnam has now signed two Tamil/Telugu main hero's Srikanth (April Manathil) and Nitin (Jayam) to star in his next feature film, which will be shot in Tamil and Telegu. However word is that Hindi version will be remade by another director if this film becomes successful in its southern counterparts.

When rumours of Mani Ratnam was circulating on planet bollywood.com that he was to work with poor actors like Hirthik and Abhishek Bachchan I was really getting worried. Thats like saying Sajyajit Ray would be working with the likes of Govinda had he been alive.

The Ratnam film is under secrecy and pre-prodcution is underway to commence shooting later this year. Lets hope this one will be the Indian film of 2004!

I hope A.R. Rahman will be doing the music, as usual.

I read on Sify that Ratnam's next film will be "Ayudha Ezhudhu" with Surya in it. Perhaps he is only producing it or it will be his next film after the this Tamil/Telugu one.

I don't see much difference between Madhavan and Hrithik when it comes to acting talent.

Isn't "Ayudha Poojai" the next MR film? But with Surya and the other one or two heroes?
Guess Mani is trying to get into some kind of terrorism based movie with young heroes?? Just a guess!!

i think thats being too harsh on the likes of those you mentioned....sure they have been very dumb with the choice of their roles, but i dont believe a lack of talent on their part.....talent and intelligence are simply 2 different things....look at where Shahrukh is today with very little talent but loads of intelligence.....he's made extremely smart choices throughout his career and the former 2 have simply been very lacking in the brains dept....Ram Gopal Verma is one director who can truly bring out the best in the both of them....for sure with AB....and Farhan Akhtar with Hrithik..but then only time will tell, no?

:ffs: not me!!! I hope he goes back to his old ways, with his old chap Ilayaraja!! it would be great to hear Ilayaraja again for a Maniratnam flick!

Rahman has become tedious & stale. Although he never seems to fail for mani ratnam :p :fight:

I agree that it's been a while since Rahman has done a great soundtrack, but with Mani Ratnam or Shankar you are almost guaranteed a good soundtrack from him. As for Ilayaraja, I'm not a huge fan of his except for a few albums and songs. I'm mostly familiar with his work in the early 90s and some of his works from the 80s. So many of his songs have the same standard percussion tracks, though when he gets creative with the percussion it is really good. He's good at tuning lyrics and creating instrumental melodies, though. Maybe I've just been listening to all the wrong IR albums.

hey!! :ffs: there is no such thing as a "wrong IR album" :p

hehe. anyway, his 80's gems are the best!! I can't imagine my life without them :D

true, rahman put forth his best for Shankar & Ratnam!

it is said that a fellow named Mahesh was given first pick to compose the music for Roja, but Mahesh opted out because he didn't feel 'prepared' enough (prolly feared not meeting up to IR) Mahesh composed a couple of amazing albums! should give him a try!

KR & YR would even be great!! KR simply 0wned with DUM DUM DUM!!! simply amazing!! his daughter isn't bad either ;)

Mani Sharma, weee, weeee, god there are just so many artists out there!! I'd just simply hate to see Rahman do another Mani Ratnam flick!! tired of it already! Vidyasagar too! too many to list.

I haven't heard any of Mahesh's albums, and I'm sure putting "Mahesh" into Google will get me thousands of unrelated hits. Any recommendations?

I have not heard any of IR's sons' albums, but I will listen to them. I did hear one song, which I think was by Yuvan Shankar Raja, "Mun Paniyaa," which had a percussion track very similar to "E Ajnabi" from Dil Se.

There are other good MDs besides Rahman, but he's my fave, so he would be my pick for Mani Ratnam's next film, though if he picked other good MDs, the music would be good. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, M.M. Keeravani (Kreem), and Vidyasagar would be my next picks.

yes! lets not forget Minnale Jayaraj! :-] & Samurai Jayaraj! although i wasn't particularly fond of 12b :P movie not bad though :)

Dragun, listen to Mahesh's "Preminchukundam Raa..!" if you get a chance :-] to help recognise the disc if you see it in shop, it stars Venkatesh & Anjala

edit:
BTW- Ramana Gogula has international capacity!!

i guess point would be, too many good music dir's out there to stick to just one! I loved Rangeela & Daud albums, but i'm glad RGV doesn't use Rahman for the others! it would also be interesting to see how well the other MD's perform given serious situations, like 'Vidaikodu Engal..' from 'kannathil..'

Directed at the user called Jag.

Hmm lets see...Madevan Alay Pauthey, Kanathil Muthamittal, Run ....while Hirthik has been in duds like Yaddien, Na Tum Janno Na Hum & Aap Mujhe Ache Lagne.

Also if I am a big fan of Bachchan then he must be Tamil too right? You dumb fu*k!
