I know most of us would like Sri Lanka to win because we have a better chance at beating them, but the ideal situation still would be winning the world cup by beating Australia. It would just make the run more legit; plus I'm curious to see how we fare against the Aussies this time around.

I wouldn't take Sri Lanka too lightly either if they reach the final. I know we whooped them last time, but India just has the tendency to let the guard down in big moments against teams they feel confident about. Knowing our tendencies for such meltdowns, I might be more assured of a full effort if Australia is in the final. The only reason I don't fear the Kenya match too much is because they gave us a wake-up call just last week, so India can't take them lightly.

Anyway, Sachin carrying us for a victory with a century would be a lot sweeter against the arrogant Aussies, but I understand that we "should" fare better against the Lankans.

Personally I dont think Sri Lanka will upset Australia. Also just on paper India has less than 50% chance of beating Australia in the finals.

But I think this team seems special and they will win the cup by playing their hearts out. And if Sachin scores a 100 in a Indian win, it will put this argument about the World's best batsman to permanent rest

I concur....on paper we do have about only a 50% chance of beating the wizards of Oz....but...but...but...as that article in rediff says (http://www.sulekha.com/redirectnh.asp?cid=302503) we have fate, karma, numbers and stars all in our favour :D

this team suddenly is no longer dependant on any one player...no longer does my heart start to palpitate upon a Tendulkar's fall of wicket...no longer does it pound if a Zaheer Khan is shown the fence more than once in an over....no longer does it fret and fume if an opposition team partnership carries on for longer than 40 runs (for guys, when was the last time anyone had a 50 run partnership against us?).....this team very much like the 1983 team is all doing it together...if one remembers well everybody was contributing then and so too is everybody contributing now...for a Srikanth then we have a Sehwag now....for a Kapil then we have a Saurav now...for a Binny then we have a Srinath now....for a Mohinder Amarnath then we have a Yuvraj Singh now...for a Sandeep Patil then we have a Dravid now...for a Yashpal Sharma then we have a Kaif now....

And unlike anyone then we have a Tendulkar NOW!! As Tony Greig would have said...Its all happening there now !!!!

GO INDIA......

I came across articles by Imran which says he prefers Inzamul Haq to Tendulkar (this was before world cup) and Vivian Richards is a betteroen day batsman than Tendulkar (after World Cup started). Also an article by Alan Border where he said he prefers Steve Waugh over Tendulkar.

Also Muthiah Muralitharan before the WI match said that Brian Lara is more dangerous than Tendulkar

By comparing all their fav batsmen to Tendulkar they are indirectly agreein on the premise that Tendulkar is the one to compare to - i.e. he is the best

australia 115/3 in 29 overs.

India clashes with surprise package Kenya in the tournament's second semi-finals at Kingsmead, Durban on Thursday. Most fans believe Sourav Ganguly's men already have one foot in the finals.

"There will be about 23 of us in the Boeing. We will be cheering all the way, with special T-shirts on - the works," Mallya said in comments published on Friday.

Former Miss India Nafisa Ali, Kashmir's charismatic former chief
minister Farooq Abdullah, his son and ex-foreign minister Omar
Abdullah and Paris-based designer Ritu Beri will be on Mallya's
plane, nicknamed "Cricket Express."

Actresses Preity Zinta, whose thriller "Soldier" played to packed houses in South Africa, and Bipasha Basu will keep the ground cameras roving during the match, along with former Miss World Aishwarya Rai and film star Manisha Koirala, newspapers said.

Cricket legend Kapil Dev, who captained India to Cricket World Cup glory in 1983, has already arrived in South Africa and will soon be joined by a number of cabinet ministers, MPs and top officials.

According to Indian immigration officials, some 10 500 fans flew to South Africa for the start of the World Cup. Some 2 000 witnessed the big games, such as the March 1 match with Pakistan, which India won.

"And now it seems another 5 000 to 6 000 fans will be flying across for the sizzling final lap of the 14-nation tournament," an official said.

Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is among those who will miss seeing the semi-final first-hand. The avid cricket fan has cited Gulf tensions as his reason for not flying.

Some two million of India's blue-coloured cricket shirts have already sold nationwide and market sources said fans travelling to South Africa were carting bundles of gear to give to people of Indian origin there.

Official sponsor Sahara will send out a Boeing to bring the team back and has already planned a monstrous celebration in South Africa's Sun City if India were to go on and win the title.

South Africa airways, which put on extra flights for the Pakistan clash, will be using bigger planes for its India flights, a spokesperson said.

The first semi-final will be played Tuesday at Port Elizabeth, where Australia will meet the the victorious team from Saturday's last Super Six clash between Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

I think its called "divine" justice !... S/L entered the S6 by virtue of the D/L method !

Its not divine justice, its face saver for SL.

It would have been divine justice if Australia was on the verge of loosing and ended up advancing to finals, because of the rains, via D/L method.
