India fires on all cylinders to get a convincing win and storm into the semis. Great job by everyone after the let down against Kenya.

Now a Kenya win over Zimbabwe could really pave the way for us to storm into the finals.

great victory indeed by India.. but like ali said to me earlier.. i wonder if sri-lanka actually played to lose this match.. Seeming the winner of this match will meet Australia in the semi finals, making it harder impossible to actually get to the final!! Anyway great demolition done by india...!! :bash:

It is actually the other way around. The winner of this match which is India is now assured of being No. 2 in the final tally, therefore a semi-final showdown with Australia is not possible. In fact an India v Australia semi-final is now not possible at all, simply because neither India nor Australia can end up less than No.2 in the final tally. Except for the one sceneraio wherein India beats New Zealand and Australia (very unlikely) loses both of it's remaing matches then India will end up being No.1 and Australia No.2, in all other circumstances Australia will be No.1 and India No.2, thus no semi-final matchup of the two is possible.

As for Sri Lanka losing on purpose, No Way. Why? Quite simply because with this loss Sri Lanka now has made things quite difficult for themselves. They now not only have to make sure they beat Zimbabwe, but they also have to pray that Kenya does not beat Zimbabwe, which in my opinion is not looking very likely.

The most likely scenario in my opinion is:
Australia v New Zealand and India v Kenya semi finals.
India v New Zealand final (yes I mean't to type New Zealand and it's not by mistake)
India - Winners ICC Cricket World Cup 2003
:) :D :)

I really hope though it is an India-Aus final and we beat them to reverse their non-stop winning spree....sweet revenge hanh?...Statistics will show then that both India and Australia would have won the SAME number of matches in this World Cup tournament but we will be the champs....aaah...that's simply sugar.....

Sanjay I am surprised you actually took the pains to respond to that ("Illogical" supposition... Hail Mr. Spock :D )

Have you thought of another scenario ?..

What if :-
Nz defeats Australia tomorrow (they bump up to 12)
and then they defeat India (they bump up to 16) and they
end up #2, instead (cos they would have defeated India on a H2H basis).

So theoretically India can be either #2 or # 3.. But I wish they remain as #2 and hope that They are able to defeat NZ so that NZ and not Kenya/SL (provided SL defeats Zim), end up #4. !

well maybe my opinion of sri lanka throwin the match was wrong... i was only going off the info provided by ali.. Anyway.. i would love to see a Final between India and Australia!! but i gotta say one ting about Sachin Tendulkar.. the guy is a wicked batsman.. i do really rate him.. just watchin him play today really was a pleasure!! Only if Pakistan had a consistant batsman as sachin.. we wudnt be in the position we are today!!

PS Saeed Anwars quit, Pybus has quit, Inzis gonna get thrown out for kicking off in a footy match, Waqar younis is gonna get axed from one day side, Wasim is retiring.. but really the PCB want him for ODI captain.. all i can say is what a state!! :ffs:

Another positive from this match is that this also happens to be the venue for the finals. I know I'm looking ahead prematurely, but I like our chances on this ground if we win the toss even against Australia.
Sachin is in tremendous form, our captain has come around, Sehwag showing signs of life, Yuvraj has been solid, and Kaif and Dravid are more than capable of contributing. Even the bowling is clicking so India can definitely challenge the Aussies.

watching last night's game was a pleasure indeed. Sachin was at his best, sad to see that he missed out on a century yet again. Sehwag showed some signs that he is coming back to form. Ganguly also improving with his batting. Overall a good performance from the batsmen.

Srinath, Khan & Nehra all bowled superbly. now all we can do is hope for the best & kick some aussie a$$ in the finals!

I smell some match fixing. Look for Australia to lose to New Zealand so that they avoid them in the Semis

It's happening :oh: Aussies are 102-7, Mr Bond taking 6 wickets so far!

now with 2 scares (one against England and the other now with NZ), it does augur well for the Indians...it shows that if you have a bowling lineup with variety you can pretty much shakeup their batting and then a batting lineup to chase, they can be beaten.....Needless to say India has both and are playing to their potential...GO INDIA

I am not still confident about the bowling. Its is a fine pace attack and the best that we have had, but our bowlers are not the attacking kind. Anyway first let us beat Newzealand and get them out of the way. That way we would be meeting either Kenya or Sri Lanka in the Semis. Since its a day/night match I would avoid the NZ bowling as much as possible

Agree with you that we absolutely NEED to beat NZ....gives our confidence another major fillip and does the Aussies no good psychologically....also need to play both Kumble and Harbhajan against the Aussies....since the finals will be on the slower pitch where the Aus-NZ match was played....they would be lethal....Mongia has to go for that game....
