Both Karz and Karma are available at http://www.indiaweekly.com for $15.99 U.S. I think this was the time when Ghai was at his best and his 90s movies never matched these films. Anyways does anybody have these DVDs? Are they worth the 15.99 U.S. tag? I rented Saudagar (Shemaroo DVD) and picture sharpness was very good for a Indian DVD in my opinion. Only problem was that I noticed some scenes were cut (I have seen Saudagar several times so I noticed this), very minor scenes but still 2-5. Bottom line: are we going to see Karz/Karma on ANY other label anytime soon, or is this as good as it is going to get for these movies?

actually i would not even buy from N/A as Bombay Music or whatever sells disc that differs from the disc sold in india. These are the same folks who does the SKY/SPARK DVDs. :ohyeh:

shuman, can you elaborate a little more on what makes you say that officially distributed Shemaroo DVDs in North America are different from Shemaroo DVDs avail in India.
Is it based on my comment??. Remember, my comment was based on only 4 Shemaroo DVDs that I have so far. (3 more are on the way).

Ever since i learned that Bombay Music in NY distributes SHEMAROO/SKY/SPARK DVDs, i lost interest in buying these disc. As i already have experience of the current SPARK/SKY DVDs. so ..Based on this assumption that N.American Shemaroo Disc by Bombay Music would be similiar as the spark/sky discs, i've decided to avoid them.

I have one N.American shemaroo DVD (Benaam Badsha) and from the cover, it looks replicated to me. Haven't opened it yet, and will be selling it shortly on ebay.

Shuman, how many Official Shemaroo DVDs do you have. I have 4. And out of those 4, I found that that the two with a Rupees sticker (implying, for sale in India), were Pseudo-progressive and the other two with no Rupees sticker (implying 'not for sale in India') were field averaged interlaced.

It will be nice to know if this indicates something for other Shemaroo DVDs as well.

After looking at a few more Shemaroo DVDs, it looks like the newer titles are coming out Pseudo-progressive. This is an improvement over field averaged ones.

I think, what official Shemaroo we get here is the same as in India.

Ali, I think it is the power of zulm.net and the dvd screenshots+reviews at work. I have noticed so many times as soon as a slightly favorable review is posted, that dvd goes out of stock at IW.

:

There is a difference. KABHI HAAN KABHI NA is field averaged and the newer titles including S. Ghai's are Pseudo-prog.

Quick comments about Karma, Karz and Hero:

1) Compared picture in all three DVDs with my old VHS copies. My VHS copies were all 4:3. Karma and Karz DVD pic, not only had extra pic on the sides, it also had extra pic at the top and bottom. This shows that the old VHS copies contained only the center portion of the screen (left, right, top and bottom all were cropped). I guess they had to do this to make the shown objects big for the quality they used to give in VHS.

2) Hero DVD pic had extra on the sides. Top and bottom of the pic was the same in DVD and in my old VHS.

3) All three DVDs and I think it applies to all S.Ghai Shemaroo DVDs is that the songs are recorded again on the disc. This allows Songs only playback but it does waste disc space. If one wants songs playback only, it can easily be programmed on the DVD player. Why waste disc space for this purpose? This disc space could be used to give higher bit rates.

4) I haven't checked all the discs, but so far, Karma songs portion of the disc skips. Songs in the movie segment are OK.
