While the Sirf Tum is particularly bad (I think the original was bad too) – Mann is quite good – I’ve not seen the original but this although is heavily cropped shows good colour and detail – plus is progressively encoded;

Forgot to mention it - both encoded in 5.1 but it's crappy Video Sound fashion pseudo 5.1, speech can be heard from rear surrounds.

I have the original Sirf Tum and that is exactly how it is unfortunetly. The menu, pq and the squashed pic. Mann is also the same.

Mann was released twice on DVD by Eros - first release was non-anamorphic which probably this 2in1 DVD copied of and second edition was anamorphic. I remember someone else saying that second anamorphic Mann DVD did have 5.1 audio.

Going slightly off topic here - I know Sirf Tum is a remake of a Tamil film, but can someone tell me when the Tamil version was released? The reason I ask is that the Bengali version of this movie was released in Summer 1998, so was the Tamil or the Bengali version the original?

second anamorphic Mann DVD did have 5.1 audio.

I think I have this version, but I have it as Interlaced?? I will check it toniote again. I would rather have a Prog 1.85:1 instead of Anamorphic interlaced.

Mann screen shots, from 2 in 1 DVD, for sure indicate that an original Progressive version existed. The screen caps of Mann seem to be stretched vertically (compare with Sirf Tum shots). So may be the source was anamorphic as well.

If the EROS DVD that I have confirms to be Anamorphic and interlaced (as I have marked it down), I will be hunting for the Anamorphic Progressive version.

My copy of MANN is confirmed Anamorphic Interlaced, Pseudo-progressive though.

At the time of buying this DVD, 2 yrs ago, I had a choice of buying the first release or the new anamorphic one at double the price. I picked the Anamorphic one. I wish, I knew that what I was rejecting was Progressive.
Is the first release or its replica available somewhere??

Rana

BTW, wasn't Mann released just after the DEI-EROS break up. If so, most likely, the first release was the work of DEI, like some other titles. The second batch has the infamous B4U Tag known for its Interlaced encodings.
