The beauty of indian movies are they are (were) family oriented. But after watching Chandni Bar, i see there are more and more movies are being released today where the content isn't all that suitable for a family to sit and enjoy.

I believe they should start to have some sort of ratings to caution the audience about the nature of the content. I didnt believe when i saw that my copy of Bandit Queen is marked as "Not Rated" on the back of the DVD.

The followings are some of the movies that i believe should have some sort of ratings. Is there any other movies?

Chandni Bar
Bandit Queen
Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar
Satya
Gangster
Maya Memsaab
Hum Hain Naujawan

I believe that these movies (most of them) were released as for adults only by Indian Censor. Indian govt usually gives either "U" or "A" (you can figure out what they stand for) for each movie that is released in india. The vhs movies used to have the censor cetificate on the back but the dvds don't.

actually they are rated - just b4 the actual movie starts, they have to show the censor certificate, which lists the rating...

but your point is valid...the rating should also be on the dvd

If they start putting ratings on DVDs, our Kishi is in trouble! :D

I've seen extremely violent U films and benign A films, so the Indian ratings "system" is meaningless.

In the case of Satya, if the cover has someone pointing a gun directly at you and the film's title looks like it was written in blood, it probably isn't appropriate for the kiddies :) I know DEI included a disclaimer before the film starts, but I don't know if it is anywhere on the case.

One store I rent from put "Adults Only" stickers on a few DVD covers, including Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai and some of those erotic WEG titles.

You are probably the best joker I've ever known!

Even if they do put ratings on the films, only a few films like Ek Chhotisi Love Story, Chandni Bar, Gunaah, Fire, Bawander, Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai, and Company would have Adults Only because of it's violence and strong language, and in some cases, sexually steamed scenes (Raaz and Jism).

I think throughout the years, there have been some Hindi movies that haven't been deemed suitable for a family audience - some of the Raj Kapoor movies like Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Ram Teri Ganga Maili spring to mind. I was surprised to see the DVD of Jaani Dushman said Not Rated on it - I believe films are illegal in UK unless there go through the BBFC.

In St. Ann's, de only ting dem a ave is Zee TV and Sony TV as well as AVS TV. Dem na ave nuh Indian flim store, yuh mus gaan tuh Trinidad, Guyana, or Suriname fi dat!

They do rate the DVD's in England. When I do visit, they always have the original DVD's rated. Pirates like the Khullam Khulla Pyaar Karen DVD (which has been out since June 2002) wasn't rated. It's just funny that they even have the DVD period!

In the UK, they even have those official VHS's with the film poster cover on the front, and it looks like the Hollywood VHS's. So bad for the USA!

Hmm.... English please?

Regarding the film ratings, I'm seeing them on dvds more and more (most with the PG or U ratings).

Does that mean "Where were you born"? I was born in Flushing, NY, but I've been living in Texas since I was 3. I'm not from Jamaica or anything, if you were wondering.

It is English in a mutated form, an abortion with misplaced grammar.

Yes.. Also born in Queens hang out with West indians and picked up a few lines here and there.

Learned that phrase from a guyanese. Check with your local grocer since he is guyanese. However, if you are sensitive use extreme caution. The phrase is now out of context and maybe insulting. When it was originally used it was meant as a mild sarcasm. The full phrase goes something like this" yu can pee fraf or mek hassa nest?"
