It's my last week of holiday from uni, I'm bored out of my mind, so I thought I would do a comparison of Nayak and Mudhalvan (the original Tamil version). All shots are taken from Shakalaka Baby, and as far as I know, most of the song was NOT reshot in Hindi - it was simply dubbed. Only a few close ups were reshot. Here goes - Video Sound Nayak on top, Ayngaran Mudhalvan on bottom:

Mudhalvan: 1.85:1 non-anamorphic widescreen

urbanlegend, it's cheaper to buy from the showroom than online. Even when Ayngaran didn't have their sale, I bought Alai Payuthe for $25 (no tax) cdn, when Indiaweekly had it for $15.99 US. Add in shipping and handling and you're almost talking $20 US vs $25 Cdn.

Currently Ayngaran has a sale (which is about to stop soon) where most of their DVDs are for $20 Cdn. I bought Run for that price and some other people have bought other movies for that price aswell.

So basically if you want Mudhalvan, you might as well go and buy it from Ayngaran before the sale stops - you'll save alot of money plus you don't have towait a week to watch the movie!

Comparing the screen shots, can Video Sound call their DVD "ORIGINAL"?? The screen shots comparison alone is enough reason to get your money refunded as per US/ Canadian laws.

I think they are trying to get rid of their older , non prog , non anamorphic authored versions to make room for special edition versions!!If it would be my advise? Legend dont rush!!hold on to your pocket!

Wait a bit, till dust settles of prog/dts, extra shits!

I think one of the main points to be noted from the screenshots is that in the Indian DVD world, you can't say that this is better than that. What I mean is normally people would say that anamorphic is better than non anamorphic, but the screenshots prove that wrong. So, when the Indian DVD companies eventually switch to progressive transfers, they might not necessarily be better than the interlaced ones.

Ofcourse bhaskar!!they learned to play with anamorphic gimmick, so next will be DTS gimmick, So if u enhance anamorphically a Shitty transfer! it stays shit/or VS uses a pseudo anamorphic, like pseudo 5.1 and now will be ,watch fot it" PSEUDO DTS" there might be Pseudo PROGRESSIVE????

WHO KNOWS ??? JUST TO GIVE pseudo flags///pseudo frame count!! just to make S.k. NATH's prog dvd player's PROG LIGHT glowing!!ha ha!!!will be waiting for that day??hmm!!

Didnt I say earlier 100 maen se 95 BEIMAN, fir bhi mera desh MAHAN!!

I only saw the songs from Nayak, but Shankar shot them in almost the exact same way as the songs in Mudhalvan. Even down to some little details, such as the zooming in on the sunflower and the morphing background in "Kabhi Khatti Lagti Hai" and "Azhagana Ratchasiye."

Anyways, I thought Mudhalvan was pretty stupid. A cameraman suddenly gets a job oncamera? The love story exists only to provide a reason for the songs, which, however good, are pointless in the story. Dancing clay pots and sunflowers would be great in a children's film or a fantasy film, but not in a film about politics. The technical values, such as cinematography and editing, were excellent, particularly the traffic jam scene, but that is all I liked about the film.

I don't understand these directors who direct their own film two or three times in different languages. Wouldn't you want to move on to another project?
