Hey guys whats going on. I bought the Lagaan DVD 5 days ago ( Jan 10 ) at my local Best Buy, lucky for me I got the last copy. I asked if there were anymore and the worker said they didnt have anymore in the back. So I am thinking they only got a few copies of the movie. Anyways, I watched the movie and there is no problems with the DVD. I dont understand what the big problem is. The Video Quality is really good, the Dolby Digital 5.1 sounds great! Its bascially a good Indian DVD. The only two problems I see is the lack of extras for such a great movie. No Making or Trailors. The only extras it does have is a 15 min Deleted "Scene". Its one scene that last 15 min. And the other extra is filmographies on the stars which is kinda lame. The other problem is their is no song menu. Just Scene Access, Play Movie, And Special Features which consists of the two things mentioned above. In order to view a song you have to go to a chapter and fast forward until the song comes up. Which, for an indian movie, is bad considering that people like to watch the songs over and over. Besides those two problems, the video and sound are great.

...first impressions: not what is should be. The image seems slightly dark, not the most clean source used but only minor speckles here and there. Edge enhancement noticeable, minimal noise reduction. Its is from a progressive source and sharpness is pretty good compared to rest f the Indian DVDs. For single DVD of the film, this is the best its going to get – honestly I’m not disappointed by the DVD – maybe because Arsh and other criticized it and dropped my expectations or compared to the rest of the Indian DVDs this Lagaan DVD stands above most all else. Fuller review when I’ve watched the film! :p

seems pretty alright but have to watch it properly to judge anyway guys just be grateful that YRF did not do this- look at the pathetic quality of DDLJ. Anyways I ordered Lagaan from Indiancdstore and I regret actually since they are shipping on 25 Jan.

Finally I got my copy of Lagaan from Best Buy store 20 miles from my place. My local Best buys store had not received any copies.

I think Lagaan DVD in spite of all the blemishes is still best DVD of Bollywood movies. Very good sound but no DTS. Good sharp picture but good have been better. There is vertical line in one of scene for couple of minutes. I am not complaining about extras.

I think folks with High end setup will be able to spot most of the problems easily. On my 32" TV picture looked good.

Yesterday was first time I was able to watch at one sitting. I had to leave half at theatre and pirate DVD did not work in my player.

If Lagaan wins at Oscar then we should request CT to come out with 2 disc DVD.

I cannot understand why everyone is so squeamish about this dvd, in comparison to all others including DEI, Columbia did an
excellent job. So people stop squeeling like a stuck pig.

Q: How many other Indian widescreen anamorphic DVDs you can name that are from a Progressive source and are not vertically squashed.

A: Three.
KNPH, Alibaba 40 Chor, Jigar.

Anybody from Toronto have this disc?

I tried Futureshop, and it's not even in their system,

and then Starstruck Entertainment at Square One
(They usually have international stuff), and they haven't heard about it either.

I'm not sure if the indian video stores are gonna have it, and I dont trust em anyway.

http://www.Futureshop.ca has it for, I think, $32.99. If the web site has it, then, definately any futureshop store can order it if they don't have it.

...putting this DVD into perspective – its one of the best for an Indian film DVD but compare to a region 1 Hollywood DVD from CT, it’ll come out with flaws already mentioned by Arsh – and no doubt many R1 DVD sites will give it full reviews to keep a check out form them too. Like I said before I’m not disappointed with this, I would have liked a dual disc but cant get everything. CT have done very well for a bare bone disc – which having fallen into others like YRF, Eros, Video Sound and even DEI – you would have not got this quality. It’s a tight fitting nearly 4 hours of video on a single dual layered disc but CT use the better encoders which at lower bits rate can manage a better video compression then other authors.

I really hope Lagaan gets something from the Oscars, even its more recognition, and hope people support this DVD - but also let CT know a better DVD is possible and very much wanted. Just imagine a Superbit 2 disc DTS Lagaan in the future if this DVD is a success. And hope Mission Kashmir DVD is in the works from CT too :)

Rana,
Agreed!. It's a crying shame, it took an outsider to give us such an an excellent quality dvd.
