Saw Gangs Of New York last night, and I found the film mediocre at best, which is truly a shame, because Scorsese is perhaps the best director in Hollywood right now and looking at the history of films he's made, alot of his films are great and a few even the best of all-time. The basic narrative of Gangs Of New York is too typical about a boy wanting to avenge his father's death and the rest is self-explanatory and ofcouse he also throws in a little love triangle story in it as well which I thought was pointless moreso with the meaningless sex-scenes. The only great thing about the film was the sensational performance by Daniel Day-Lewis, who gives a performance of a life-time in this film.

Gangs Of New York also had few scenes which I thought were lifted or inspired from Ram Gopal Verma's Company and Micheal Mann's The Last of the Mohicans.

I lost interest in this film after the I saw the trailer - looked poor. Same case for Terminator 3 - looking like a disaster movie :nopity:

i wanted to see this movie, but did not get a chance.....you are very right ali, terminator 3 looks awful and it will flop when it comes out...the main villain in that movie is a female....a female character the main villain, the guy whopping her ass, doesnt sound that great.....if it was a guy, then yeh, that would be a kick ass movie..... :) ...anywayz back to this Gangs Of New York......i heard it have so much violence, blood shed, one can swim in it.....lol....well i guess i will wait for it to come to my $ theater since the rating for that movie is dropping.....when it came out it had 8.0/10 in Imdb and now its 7.6/10......still this rating considered an average but i will wait.....

the story of Gangs of New YOrk is nothing to write home about, but it's definitely worth a watch. Scorcese is at teh top of his game, teh directing and editing in the film are works of art. Same goes for the cinematography, score, and production design. All are at the
top of the game. And what can be said about Daniel Day-Lewis... this is one of the greatest characters ever put on film. Also, i gotta say I loved the way he ended it.
all in all, it started very strongly, and ended very strongly..

I pretty much agree with you, though I'm not too big on X-men, I completely hated the first film and I hold no expectations for its sequel.

Yes, technically the film was at the top of its game, that and Butcher's performance. But the story was too weak and it didn't hold too much of my interest.

Gangs only comes alive when Daniel Day-Lewis is on screen. The star, Leonardo DiCaprio, not only brings little to his role as a young Irishman bent on vengeance who awakens to destiny, he is a black hole who sucks the life out of the movie.

The film is watchable, occasionally riveting, but ultimately a disappointment.

out!!!!!!

I strongly disagree. I thought this was one of Scorsese's very best, easily one of the best of the year.

The battle scenes were spectacular, makes you forget about THE TWO TOWERS.
