New Year's Resolutions for Indian DVD Producers:

1. Eros, Video Sound, Spark, Shemaroo, etc.: Produce DVDs worth buying! This means sharp progressive transfers with good color, contrast, brightness, and compression. And no excessive digital video noise reduction! Also, none of this mono 5.1 crap. Films from the 1960s don't need 5.1 tracks! Improve subtitling grammar, spelling, wording, and punctuation and don't use huge fonts.

2. BEI: You don't have much work to do. We're all just glad that you are back. However, this time around, fix the squashed video problem on widescreen discs, and reduce the digital video noise reduction a bit.

3. Ayngaran: Glad to hear that you will be switching to progressive transfers. But when you do start creating these transfers, transfer the films at 2.35:1 or 2.40:1 rather than the usual 2.20:1. For mono films, use 1-ch or 2-ch mono rather than fake 5.1. Improve subtitling grammar and wording and use a smaller font, but not too small. Again, reduce the digital video noise reduction. Sense a pattern here?

4. Arjoe: Make new digital transfers with all the above suggestions and please include subtitles. We need some good Bengali DVDs.

5. EVP: Please start making progressive transfers again, including the re-releases of Abhimaan, Aradhana, etc. as well as of your Telugu DVDs.

6. To all DVD makers, press DVDs on media that won't rot. I can't stress this enough.
