Yes Theon it has more to do with some aspects of my life which I dont think I would like to reveal here.. but trust me, I have found peace with myself. Previously I had hangovers accepting ppl with other faiths and beliefs... These days I am quite open with that... Hell just a couple of days back... went to my friends home (he is from the city of Lucknow)...for a sumptious meal consisting of Haleem ( made of beef) and Biryani... and boy he makes it well... Think abt this...had i been rigid abt my religious beliefs here...I would have been commiting a sin here... but since i left that baggage behind.. I find it quite peaceful enjoying the food and other stuff from other ppl...
Just the other day, my colleague (an Iranian gal) gave me a dish her mom made... I dunno what its called..but i had meat and rice and spinach... I know we have a similar dish in India.. but boy think abt this.. I had never had an Iranian dish i my whole life and there I was gladly munching (Call it my faith in Food.. that has helped me get these wonderful dishes :) )

As for your answer to the question abt existence... well I had a philosophical bent of mind a couple of years ago... though I equally believed in the Darwanian theory of evolution... Now (you can say) I am very much biased towards the darwanian theory... and i like explanations which rely on concepts of scientific temper...

As for my love of Judaism... oh well... there's a long story behind that.. My first ever net-pal I met was from Israel, and till todaate she continues to by my friend... the oldest in fact (literally and figurativelly)... You can say it all began with a discussion abt the Samosa !! :D... So you see I am quite at ease with all sorts of ppl from all over the world (Yeah with the exception of one DISTINCT group of cos... :D )....

That reminds me theon... what is ur ethnicity ? (if I may ask you)... and I presume you are from Toronto ? (you did mention that some other time).. It would surely be interesting to discuss these things with you.. in the coming days... If you have ICQ then please feel free to contact me there !

The other religion I am deeply fascinated abt but have no clue abt is Zoarastrianism... but unfortunately... I have lost touch with a few friends I had during my high-school years. !

sknath... your beliefs are fine and dandy, but I only offer a suggestion to not demean others vies or beliefs. Your statement above is a sign of ignorance, rather than intellectual capacity. Those who rode rightly in the way of islam did no proselytizing... they presented what is believed to be the truth, and the rest was left to the people. If you consider yourself to be a fair person, then I suggest you question this opinion, as it is clearly one that has arisen from the actions of a very active and vocal minority. If you think they're nothing more than bile(which they may very well be), then why believe the words that are coming out of their mouths.

Peace,

and darius25, it doesn't sound like you are "believing in all religions." it more sounds like you're confused what to believe, so you figure you'll believe every religion is true. here's where problems arise since religions contradict, and they can't both be literally true at the same time. only if you believe religions teach symbolic truths and not literal truths can you hold such a position, which leads to further problems...

actually you're kind of right, but I purposely don't believe in the technicalities behind all religions. Why question about these matters, when it has caused so much harm to so many people.

Just accept or don't accept but don't argue/create conflict with people just cause their beliefs don't clash with yours. (I'm not using you as an example).

I actually believe all these different religions are different interpretations of the one true thing! So you know what, they're all right.

Of course this is my opinion, and I'm happy with it cause it doesn't clash with any one else's opinion. And you know that saying "Ignorance is bliss"

Peace,

Youullu u havae correctly quoted me but you have quoted me incompletely... or are you unaware of history... I didnt make history... I just read the facts from history textbooks and discourses throught the years.. Have you read abt the Mughals and before them the Turks who invaded India ?.. How abt the Muslims who invaded Spain ?... I did provide a fair balance when i stated that and compared it the "Crusaders" of Christianity... (lil wonder the famous book Clash of civilizations has been written based on this very fact)...

Whatever happened with Islam happened during the medieval times... The only religion actively proselythising today is Christianity...(no more crusades... but plenty of other tools like false inducements... lil wonder i raised my voice against the so called televangelists..)

But due to some unforseen incidents in my life i completely gave up my faith..and turned my attention towards something else..in life....

I consider myself a Christian and a Hindu, and I have no problems reconciling the two. I also believe in the core truth of all religions - and that they are all paths to the same place.

BTW, sknath, I am an American married to a Hindu man from India - I don't think all women are as close minded as you think. Are you sure it was your religion they were objecting to and not something else? :D

As with any discussion on religion, the discussion is getting out of hand. First of all do we need to know which religion everyone belongs to? There are no easy answers to religion since people mix all the following into the discussion
1) The original definition of the religion
2) How the religion is being practiced today
3) How the person behaves individually

By the way I think in India almost every group (by state, language, religion, caste) beleive that they are being targetted. I suppose that it is the natural human emotion of insecurity.

We better stop this discussion and get back to discussing DVDs

muslim by birth; and muslim by faith..
having loving wife. who was christian by birth. she forced herself (perhaps, out of respect) to not to eat pork/alchohol and other haram foods.
currently, she is practising islam out of her own will!

sometimes, other religions sounds odd/irrational - but who am i to judge! By all mean, i Do have respect/love for anyone and everyone who (truly) believes in the almighty (sincerely).

Which is it non-believer ( athiest ) OR questions the existence of god ( agnostic )?
Since you question your own shadow more than likely it is the latter.

We are detracting from the original question asked don't think he wanted a discussion here!

I am a muslim
