I am glad that BEI has emerged after the exit of DEI. They produced the best DVDs. However I am concerned about the quality of media they have used for their last few releases. Titles such as Geraftaar, and a few others were reported to have freezing/skipping problems due to the silver media used. I hope there is no disc rot that is famous with Video Sound.
Does anyone have any contact with BEI and can address this concern?

I am afraid too, and concerned too, it seemed lack that they have acquired the same rotten media virus, for their movie repressings/replications, damn...no cure for this leprosy/cancer?

Just like when Super Digital (ABHINETRI) did some thing good, they proudly displayed (Film to DVD using Digi Cine-tel) it on the cover, the same way they should imprint on the discs and claim it on the cover that a GOLD media has been used if the did use Gold Media. This for sure will cause competition and also build customer confidence.

Boxer_Bhai stated about VS DVDs that nobody knows how long a DVD should last. In some VS DVD inserts, they state "up to 100 yrs" to be the DVD life. May be they are technically correct as "1 hour" still qualifies as "up to 1 year".

In a way, we are to be blamed as well that we want the cheapest prices. $0.99 sale, 2 in 1, 4 in 1, pirates etc. I for sure will want to pay a fair price as long as it is justified by quality and longevity.

I think that they will produce better DVD's. They are aware how P'd off ppl are with Eros, as they had mentioned on their site that Eros were producing DVD's with quality worse that pirates when they first announced their split with eros.

My only concern is that they should lap up all the top titles licences before Eros get their hands on it.

I can't agree with you here - how are we to blame? I don't think any of us asked for the things that you mentioned - but when huge companies like Eros and Video Sound are putting out bad dvds to save a couple of bucks, we turn to cheaper alternatives. Why should we pay $15 for one VS DVD when we can get the same prints of 2 movies on one disc (that probably won't rot) for the same price?

If all Hindi DVDs were of a standard matching that of Hollywood DVDs, then maybe the number of pirates and 2 in 1 DVDs would go down.

If all Hindi DVDs were on par with Hollywood DVDs, I think the number of 2-in-1 discs would still be the same, but discerning viewers like those on zulm would be less pissed off with originals and would be more likely to spend $10-20 on an original. As it is, no Eros discs post-DEI are really worth $20. Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak is better than most Eros or Eros-B4U titles, but still not quite as good as even cropped DEI titles.

i think the BE dvd quality is going to be same as the DEI quality, which was reasonably high
but they were still at the lower end of high quality when compared with good hollywood titles
BE has only one thing to do to better their dvd's and have become a high quality dvd producers, they have to apply Digital Filtering with caution, they must learn to do this properly, only then these dvd's will become better and would qualify as high quality product, and would approach reference quality material
but i don't think that is going to happen :bangbang:
as in case of Golmaal film, BE has repackaged the DEI dvd as it was, so quality is not changed at all, quality not going down i am happy, but the quality is not going to improve that sucks big time :ffs:
well i think BE needs to redo the DEI titles in HD and try to achieve the best possible picture with state of the art equipment, from that they should make new high quality dvd, and then high quality HD-DVD's when it is time
it's ok, i am waking up now :nopity:

most of my indian dvd's are DEI
and am happy with all of them, but they could be better

the ones that aren't are:
shool
sholay (i have the DEI one also)
virasat
dil chahta hai
agneepath
and am NOT happy with any of them

Well, yeh, I guess my wording was wrong - my main point is I guess that quality conscious Zulmis would by the official version if it was of high quality, and not the 2 in 1 version, hence the number of 2 in 1 versions would decrease.

Am I making any sense at all, or am I just spouting bull again? :stupid: :baaa:

I concur!! for good quality dvds like monsoon wedding, lagaan, mission kashmir..it does not hurt me to pay $20 plus for original..if cheaper better..I would never buy 2 in one etc etc...

For bad quality hindi dvds..I feel, they r not worth more than $5 bucks each??? still If i will buy, I would stay away from 2 in one..people who trade sell here on forum..do u see any value for ur 2 in one or dupe stuff for trading..may be in same category? possibly..but people who cant rent, or get cheaper, i think, it might be reasonable to buy these cheaper versions and watch them, and thats it..for the price of extended rentals...

Even if originals were on par with Hollywood DVDs, there would still be many people who see that they can get 2 movies for $10 and will buy the 2-in-1 DVDs. These are the people who regularly buy Eros and Video Sound discs.

I wrote to India weekly about the BEI mystery...still unsolved.

I would like to know if the Golmaal dvd from BEI is from the now defunct
company DEI? Is DEI coming back as BEI? Please clear my doubt as the death
of DEI has killed all my hopes in Indian dvds. Thanks

Dear Rakesh Rai

Thankyou for contacting IndiaWeekly Customer Service

We cannot confirm but it is all everybodies guess.
