R2 video and sound are about the same; 2.35:1 non anamorphic PAL and Dolby Digital 2.0 audio. Only difference is the theatrical trailer, documentary "The Making of an Epic" and still gallery has been removed from R2 PAL DVD. On the other hand R2 PAL DVD is on a single sided dual layered disc while the R1 is double sided single layered.

Ali,

I dont think the new release disc will have any different transfer than the current one... from the image it indicates "Disc 2 feature in Arabic".. as far as what i understand is that Disc 2 would be same movie dubbed in arabic. what you say

Tomorrow (December 18, 2002) at 9pm eastern time, PBS is showing Muhammed: Legacy of a Prophet. I've heard from people who have seen previews of this feature, that it's a very fair and accurate representation of the Prophets life.

Here's a link to the website for this feature:

Good spot! - was wondering what’s going on the second disc - was hoping they'll span the film across two discs – with a hi-quality transfer - but alas not to be.

As I understand it, the Arabic version is not dubbed but was shot simultaneously with Arab actors so each character in the film had two actors.

But still it does say anamorphic transfer - which neither other DVD are - so they could still do a decent new transfer for the film.

Is this film any good? It looks pretty interesting. Isn't Anthony "I can play any ethnicity" Quinn in it?
