Arsh,
Thanks for the pictures, looks essentially the same except MHA images look little darker than the Sholay.

Well, then that settles the argument. There are indeed two versions of sholay by DEI. You are lucky to have the high bit rate version.

So, there exists a High bit rate DEI-EROS SHOLAY DVD.

I wonder how can we settle:

1) Whether the high bit rate Sholay has better PQ than the low bit rate version?

2) Is the high bit rate version a new MPEG compression out of the previous DVD (i.e. is it a copy)?

3) Is the new encoding from the original master or from a newer and better master?? What good did it do to the PQ??

Rana,

A higher bit rate will definitely improve the pq but only can be noticed on larger display, I mean that is only projector based system can show the deference. I think you remember my reference about Super bit DVD (reviews by HTF) reviewer does not see any improvement on his 55 inch HDTV, where as most of the people from AVSForum can see the improvement.
I think the image looks more solid.

I can't answer these as I don't have the higher bit version.

If a higher bit rate version has been copied from a lower bit rate DVD, there won't be any improvement. Actually there will be some degrading in PQ. (Just like a DVD made from a crap VHS can never be any better than the source no matter how high a bit rate is used).

I agree, only a large screen display can tell the difference. I do have high bit rate clips of Sholay on MHA DVD and low bit rate Sholay DVD. I can't decidingly say which one is better from my small screen display.

I did send you, even higher bit rate caps along with MHA! and only thing you can do grab, same couple from your low bit Sholay and try to see, if or ? diff between the three!! versions of same caps!!

picture, looks more brighter, lit and less grainy on my display!! in prog mode!! so I do see a bit advantage!! between 6 and 8 bitrate!! I generally dont like 2-3 bit rate dvds, esp from SD etc!! very dark, to my taste, e g, judwa, ptkk, pktdk etc!!

but were single layer too!!

I dont have the 2-3 bit rate sholay to compare!!
