Ayngaran who have bought the world-wide rights to the film BoyZ (Cinema/DVD/VCD/VHS/Audio CD-DVD and Internet) have claimed that A.R. Rahman have recorded a whopping 16 songs for this film. The tracks include background score and film song tracks. The 2-AUDIO CD will be out mid next year, and Ayngaran who have heard the songs claim that it will be the best Indian film album ever, and are expecting sales to top even the Hindi Market!

Quite a bold statement but when you think about the combination of A.R. Rahman & Shankar (Director) who have given India some of the best tunes ever (Gentleman, Humse Hain Muqabala, Indian, Jeans & Mudhalavan) this statement could be set to be true.

BoyZ has a new cast, and the plot looks at the a group of sexually active school boyz and girls. A sort of commercialization of the classic teen-sex film Thulluvadho Illamai (Dir. K Raja). I doubt Shankar could directed a film in the same league, but I have high hopes on the songs now!!

Ever since Bombay Dreams has released in the international market the Tamil Music industry has gained recognition, and now Music directors have even started to ensure quality on all the tracks in one album. Recent examples are the soundtracks of RUN, BALA, VILLIAN, BAGVATHI. All feature amazing tracks that are a showcase for Indian cinema and world music.

The same is happening with Hindi songs too but in reverse. It is thier classic tracks that are becoming more recognised around the world then thier present tracks. Looks like Indian music is on its way up.

Ayngaran will become progressive from April 03, with the re-release of either Kandukodian Kandukodian or Kanathil Muthamital on DVD in DTS, in a brand new telecine transfer from its original negatives. Also coming is thier special edition DVD's..

IMO, the ARR-Shankar combo is only surpassed by the ARR-Mani Ratnam combo, as far as songs are concerned. And it is really great that background music is included on the CD. Indian background music is rarely released on recordings.

Sunny this is great news indeed....
However the cynic me still has some questions which I think only you can clear...
If you say that they are gonna do a direct telecine from the negatives (and thus give ur progressively encoded DVDs)... what stopped them from doing this till now ?... Dont they have the rights for the film ..or were they not able to obtain the film negatives ? ...
If they wish to start that from April 03...how are they gonna do it... Are they changing their authoring company ?... Or what is the deal....
Pls explain it for all of us... Would really help us understand this murky business called DVD authoring :D

Thanks :)

Stop complaining - no-one can ever win with you - first you complain about DVDs being interlaced, and then when a company announces it's going progressive, you ask why they hadn't done that so far!!
