Has anyone read the book "show business" by Shashi Tharoor? I read this book a few years ago and found it very entertaining! The book, i found, was based on Amitabh Bachchan's life, but told in a very humorous manner. It basically shows the life of a hero in hindi films and the crazy life he has!

The naming of the characters were also very interesting and if i remember clearly, the names of the two main female characters in the book actually rhymed with Rekha and Jaya. Also the main characters name is Ashok Banjara (AB)!!!

What i also found on the net is that this book was also made into a movie and it starred Chunky Panday, has anyone seen this movie?

Regards,
aby

Hi ABY2000

Do you know where I can get the Italian edition of this book from? I have a few Italian friends who are really getting interested in Hindi movies and it would be a great gift for one of them!

Also - does anyone know where I can get an English edition of this book?

Thanks

Muz.

I got mine from the County library too. Most of them have a copy.

Its an ok read. Apparently the lead character, whose initials are also the same as the Big B's, was inspired by the man. It gets confusing though as to what is real and what is fiction when you try to draw parallels. I think he's only used very few incidents from his life.

On an aside, his 'The Great Indian Novel' is a far more sophisticated book and is based on the Mahabharata.

Thanks to you both. I live in the UK in an area where there are no Indians - so I know that the local library won't carry these titles!

But I can order from Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble (the UK Amazon store doesn't carry this book). I'm always interested in reading work by Indian authors - but this guy has escaped my attention ... until now!

Thanks again.
