Hey Zulmi's,

It's close to Halloween and I was just wondering which horror movies are your all time favorites (hindi or english) or left you scared for a long time. My fav's include:

1.) Halloween- the reason...micheal myers.Need i say anymore?
2.) The Exorcist - always gives me the chills when i see it.
3.) Puraana Mandir - just about the scariest hindi flick i ever saw. Has to be the best from Ramsey Brothers.
4.) The Ring - saw it just recently. this movie scared the shit out of me!! I loved it though. Overall this movie has good scary moments, suspense, and good story.

Gattaca... can you think of a truly more frightening film, especially looking how close genetic engineering truly is?

Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai............oh wait, Tusshar Kapoor wasn't meant to be scary? Sorry.

Seriously though, Final Destination freaked me out when I saw it.....I've never thought of a gust of wind in the same way since.....

The Others - a pretty decent horror flick, scared alot of people in the theatre.

Final Destination - was afraid of flying and bath tubs after seeing this flick!

Personally ... The Exorcist and Halloween never scared me, I thought they were pretty damn boring. Halloween especially, I failed to understand how it was scary ???

Ring is a remake of a hit japanese movie. the original has 2 sequals and a tv-series. the second ring movie made more money than Star Wars Ep 1 in some south-east asien countries. korea made a remake of the first movie, too.

Personally, Final Destination scared me. You felts so safe at the end and then... I saw one Hindi flick that freaked me out but I don't remember the name. This model lost her husband and then became obssesed with this married guy. Maybe I am just easily scared. I don't like gore though. It's not scary just stupid. No offense. :nervous:

Typical horror films just don't cut it - The Exorcist, Halloween and other old school horrors are just a joke. Once famed and banned The Evil Dead is a hilarious comedy if you watch it these days :oh: The Ring was a let down after all the hype.

The most scary/horror movies I find these days are one that goes to the next level, ones based on real life events. Two spring to mind - one is Hong Kong film called the The Untold Story (1992) and other is the story of Ted Bundy (2002). Both films are not brilliantly made, just the story they tell in grizzly detail leaving some chills behind.

I believe no matter how good the movie is if you watch it in not so favorable conditions the movie tend to lose its edge of what its suppose to achieve. This is especially true about a horror flick.
For example I heard lot of good/bad things about The Exorcist. But when I watched it recently I found it is not that scary. Again I watched it in my living room with my regular tv with out the surrounds. But when I watched a relatively less scary movie Ninth Gate in my theater room, alone, it makes me so scary that I don't even forget about the movie for at least a week.
Another movie that I don't forget to this day is The vanishing (French).

One of the most memorable movies I've seen too! - but not French, it was Dutch.

I didn't realise it was available on Criterion Collection DVD - have to source this out  :nervous:

Isn't there a single good hindi horror movies?

folks.. i am looking for this movie.. i dont know the name seen in 1990 sometime. has to be horror movie.. i remembered some foggy scene. they were probably mummies, but can't tell you for sure, they were seen shot by gun, didn't effect them, nothing seems to effect them and then scenes where they would come in a room and some substances (may be acid).. melting them.. i think that was near the end..

does it ring a bell to you folks.. i am looking for that movie ever since.

There are quite a few Hindi horror movies - a lot of them have been reviewed at http://www.thehotspotonline.com.

I think the best Hindi horror movie I have seen is Raat, made by Ram gopal Verma. The movie was quite flawed, and in some ways, a rip off of the Exorcist. But, it didn't have the typical tacky shit that most Ramsay movies did.

By the way - has anyone seen Mute Witness? It's one helluva movie - I remember catching it in the middle of the night on Channel 4 a long time ago - well worth a watch.

Just out of interest - what is the worst horror movie you've seen - both hindi and English? I think the old Jaani Dushman was quite painful.

I rented "Frailty" last week, and that was extremely disturbing. It's a brilliant film.
