Yeah, maybe if Spiderman just didn't plain suck. Honestly, it was a substandard movie with good action scenes. That's it. Devdas fell short of my expectations, but it was still a darn good film. While the Devdas DVD may suck compared to the
Spiderman dvd, I'd buy Devdas any day solely for the film.

Some of us actually buy movies based on the film on it.

I just don't see how Spiderman was such a massive hit. Sure it was an entertaining film to watch for two hours, but it was a totally forgettable experience. Nothing really spectacular about it. The action scenes weren't particularly great (the Matrix style bending backwards thing appeared yet again), and the characters were not particularly intriguing. The whole thing was sort of blah.

The advance reviews do mention that the transfer falls just short of the 3D like quality of many recent discs. Their heads will explode when they see an Eros disc.

Don't say anything not nice about Spiderman to my kids. They will never talk to you again.

All adults agree with your comments but Hollywood movies are a hit if kids go to see them. How can POKEMAN, a cartoon movie be a hit. Many a times the whole 40 foot screen got filled with a yellow circle (Pokeman close-up), without even any shading. Just two thin lines for the nose and mouth.

I think, Spiderman will be a ref standard DVD to test your Audio systems, adult's toys.

I am with you Dragun and Bond on this one.
What if I say American beauty was the worst movie ever for an Oscar winner. How many are with me?

Well I know I will have to buy this DVD; my kids have been bugging me for this DVD since they saw the movie. I am going to pre-order at the futureshop. The deal is FREE Spiderman T-shirt. Future Shop prices are not bad for new releases; T-shirt is bonus.

I was actually born and raised in the US, plus I'm in the film's target audience. I wasn't expecting a Fellini film here, but I wished that the action was more exciting. There was nothign special about it. There were other things that bugged me. For example, the Green Goblin's mask. They could have made the mouth move when he talked, but it looked like a Halloween mask! That was probably because the film was dubbed into different languages, but still, c'mon. Maybe the sequels will have more outrageous action sequences.

And I still say Titanic is the worst film to win Best Picture :p

As Ray Barone said in Everybody Loves Raymond (US sitcom), "I think Pokemon is Japanese for 'Stupid Americans.'"

Here's a quote from DVDfile.com about the sound:

Quote:
Presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, those hoping for a new demo favorite may need to look elsewhere. First the good stuff. As you would expect on a $100 million movie, it's a model of the modern Hollywood soundtrack in terms of dynamic range and cleanliness of the recording. The front soundstage is wonderfully spacious and full, with robust midrange and stellar separation of the music, effects and dialogue. And despite all the razzmatazz and action scenes, the dialogue is crystal clear and I never once had to fiddle with the volume during quieter scenes or pop on the subtitles.

However, my big disappointment with this presentation is the inconsistent use of the surrounds. They really only kick in during the big scenes, and even then I've heard better imaging and discrete effects on other big-budget DVDs. The score is also too confined to the front, with only some bleed to the rears. Subtle ambiance is all but absent, and imaging from front to back is fair but nothing more. The .1 LFE does kick out some low bass, so turned up loud this mix still delivers at least during the action scenes. A perfectly fine mix, just not reference quality.

I havent seen devdas but spider-man is a very good movie. Many times a comic book or a tv series being remade into a movie has failed so the director had to make sure the movie would be a success.

The result, a fresh entertaining movie that has a good plot, humour and well choreographed action. The movie also has a great rewatchability factor. There are not many films one can see time and time again and not get bored.

Tobey Maguire is a great actor and I thought he was great as Peter Parker and I cannot think of anyone else who could have pulled of that role better than him. He was better in Wonder Boys but then he had a better role to play with. Im not saying bring out the oscars or anything but he did the best he could with the role.

Like I said I havent seen Devdas yet but if like you say its better than spiderman, then I am expecting a lot from it.
Oh by the way, IMO Titanic was brilliant. A masterpiece of cinema.

I think it's ironic how a lot of the Bollywood audience complains that every single Bollywood movie has a love story. Too bad the same is true in Hollywood. Pretty much ever single movie. Spiderman, Men in Black 2, Bourne Identity, Sum of All Fears, etc.. And leading that too is a kinky "love" track where love to them only means having sex. At least in Bollywood films, as illogical as they may be, love is shown in a more proper format.

I dunno, just my 2 cents.

In the films you have specified, love is only a side theme(if that). And the love is also pretty realistic in a way.
Having sex is an act of love and is not always the case. Peter parker doesnt get any from MJ and whilst the love is there, it is subtle and not so open.

In Bollywood, you have hot girls falling in love with someone like Mithun cos he saved their lives from some gunda (like thats really gonna happen). And then to show their love, they prance around in a park singing songs.

It simply is not right to compare hollywood and bollywood. Bollywood, as predictable, cheesy and awful from a critical point of view as it is, still holds a sentimental place in my heart no matter what critics say. I will continue to watch them all the time cos I love them.
Hollywood movies just plain rock. No way my bollywood dvds are gonna catch up with the number of hollywood movies I have.

Also my two cents(pence) :baaa:
