This is from the 2 Disc Special edition version . It has both the 1982 as well as the 2002 versions on 2 separate discs..

As usual, a Hi-Q transfer !... (This screencap is from the original release version)....

Of cos Picture taken in a Force-Weave Mode !!

So Folks if you have gotten over your disappointment over DEVDAS (and the B******S @EROS) then please go and buy this DVD.. as this is a movie worth treasuring.

*ps :- On a sidenote who would have imagined that this very same girl would one one day go and BARE her ASSETS for PLAYBOY

Sknath,
Most of the time I won't not spend more than $10 bucks like you, except for the really good ones like ET.

It turns out the original cut will be on the 2-disc version, contrary to what was announced before. This, apparently, at Spielberg's insistence. I'm still at a loss as to whether to buy the 2-disc or 3-disc. The 3-disc includes the full making of doc by Laurent Bouzereau, but the 2-disc includes a shortened version.

Now I can replace my old VHS copy, the one with the green flap. It had bad picture quality even for VHS.

Sknath Bhai,

You have the 2 disc version right? Like DragunR2 mentioned it is suppose to have both versions (original/new) is this true? This is the deciding factor for me, thanks!

Is there a 3-disc set version available? I thought the only version available is the 2-disc set with both the original and the new version, along with a slew of extras!!

out!!!!

E.T.-The Extra-Terrestrial Ultimate Gift Set
October Calkins

(Technical Review by Josh Lehman)

October 23, 2002

For the 20th anniversary of the timeless classic E.T. the Extra Terrestrial Steven Spielberg remastered the film and re-released on the big screen earlier this year. This remastered version includes new scenes and an updated computer enhanced E.T. and is brought to you on a special three disk set, to once again bring joy to many families for years to come. It’s hard to believe that it has been twenty years since I was knee high to a grasshopper and seeing this for the first time myself.

When a space ship full of extra terrestrials drop down to explore the botanicals of earth and one accidentally gets left behind Elliot (Henry Thomas), and his brother (Robert Mc Naughton) and sister (Drew Barrymore) take on the care of a most unusual pet. Elliot has a special connection to his new friend and he finds that E.T. can’t stay on earth and he must phone home in order to survive. He can’t hide him forever and he has to get help to return him to his family before it’s too late.

Talk about being on. Spielberg was at his family-friendly finest with E.T... The theatrical release was perfect in every manor for the time, including flawless F/X and top-notch directing. The John Williams’ score is still one of the best of all times, and great performances by the young Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore make E.T. a true classic. While some object to the improved CGI E.T. and the removal of the guns from the film, the improvements well out-weigh the negatives making the Special Edition much more welcoming than the Star Wars Trilogy SE’s. For those purists, director Spielberg has also graciously included the theatrical release on both the 2-disc and 3-disc editions.

E.T.-The Extra Terrestrial Ultimate Gift Set has all the bells and whistles, including a fantastic looking 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer on the newly restored Special Edition as well as on the theatrical release. The SE is immaculate, rendering this print looking virtually new. Scratching and normal wear and tear and almost non-existent and Universal use of edge-enhancement is minimal as not to upset the videophiles. The picture has three-dimensionality not found on the great Laserdisc set of years back, and the overall color scheme has a natural palette that make E.T. one of the best-looking older films on DVD today.

As good as the video is on this great set, the audio is even better. Universal has included both Dolby Digital 5.1 EX and DTS ES Matrix on the Special Edition, and just the Dolby mix on the theatrical cut. While neither flag is tracked for EX or ES, the package is labeled so be sure you engage the EX/ES mode on your receiver to fully appreciate the fantastic job they did on the sound. The surrounds are used mainly for ambience as well as some nifty localized F/X such as E.T. scrambling from the authorities in the beginning of the film. John Williams’ beautiful score is gloriously reproduced across all six channels, and has never sounded better. The LFE track is also surprisingly robust, with tight F/X that will truly give your sub a workout.

The Ultimate Gift Set is simply loaded to the gills in features and goodies. To start out, the packaging is world-class, with a deluxe gift case housing the 3 DVDs, a CD soundtrack of John Williams’ score, a lithograph from the film, a certificate of authenticity, as well as a nice hardback book great for the coffee table. Disc 3 contains the sets bevy of extras, including a neat little interactive map of the galaxy for the kiddies, as well as a short Making-Of that is more frill that substance. Also included are the standard production notes and trailers, and load of web material and promotional goodies to keep you involved for quite some time.

E. T. is every bit as good today as ever and thanks to today’s modern technology even better. It’s the cutest Hollywood tale of kids trying to hide from their mom the pet that followed them home. If you saw it before it is certainly worth seeing again, the computer generated emotions expressed by the new and improved E.T. are adorable and well worth the wait. See it again for the first time.

I see a court case looming here..............I'm sure Video Sound are gonna take the studio to court for ripping their original idea of having a 3 disc set to hike the price............. :sus: ???
