Arsh , change ur settings to VIVID.. and then fiddle around with the contrast (especially) and you will see a marked improvement.. which is why Mera Gaon mera Desh has been placed at a lower position ( as it does not in any way improve the color even if we change the settings :( )

Arsh, did the Pic settings made any difference to your JUDWAA DVD PQ when viewed progressively??

Yes! rana ji!! I did try VIVID mode ! The result, is there! MARGINAL, but STILL VISIBLE..it induces a BIT more BRIGHTNESS!!I'll send u comparative shots, that I took, via mail!

Secondally, I dont have ORIG YES BOSS!! But thought to have JUDAII and KOYLA! and SD original SONG COLLECTION too!!

I am looking for those DISCS to confirm ur point!
I agree on VIVID JUDWA is a BIT GLOSSY, but still very dark!
I still prefer, absolute PRISTINE look of DEEWANA MASTANA! that looks 3D on my system!!

What if that too was originally progressive (I think it was)??

BTW, if you do find some original ancient/ current "Super Digital" progressive versions, check if they are dual layer or single layer??

Ok, Rana ji!! Koyla, without subtitles: Progressive indeed! better transfer than Judwaa by all means..is there any way, i can tell the layer and bit rate from powerdvd, otherwise, i have to use my system..thnx :baaa:

KOYLA progressive, good news. Looks like my source is credible.

I don't know how to check layer # from Power DVD. I am sure there is a way. Anyway, another indicator is bit-rate and that is what counts. If the bit rate indicated is above or near 5 mbps, most of the time, then it has to be dual layer for a 150 min feature.

On my Sony player, I can toggle between Bit Rate and Layer Info. For dual layer DVDs layer # 0 or 1 appears in layer indicator. For single layer DVDs, neither 0 nor 1 appear.

I don't have Sooryavansham. I am sure (as was told), original release was progressive. I will buy it when I find the prog version. May be Ali can help (zulm/ Sunnyaudit site had reviews). But I don't think they are following this thread.

yes! sir!! dvd player, will tell, anyways! was just looking for short cut!! I think, i have seen recently, lousy 2-4 bit rate stuff double layered too, so no guarantee, here too!!!
BTW! SOORYAVANSHAM is prog too!!
btw! i think, legend has Khamoshi, orig SD version, with no sub titles!!
Ask him to confirm..thnx

VIRASAT: with sub titles..INTERLACED! but!! ABSOLUTELY tremendous/beautifu; transfer!

So far the titles that have turned out to be prog, I was told recenly that they were originally prog.

The same source had also told me that VIRASAT too was prog. Definitely. We have to find it.

Yesterday I tried playing 3 VS (non SD) titles. Bought directly from VS distributor for Canada, in person. None is playable now. 3 out of 3 has to be a record.

Ok!! rana ji! now we r in buisness!! I have caps of Koyla! as mine is without sub titles(prog) good transfer, much better than Judwaa!!

found my dvd of Judaii, with no sub titles!! prog..again, but yaar, got caps on dat too, hmm!! it is really really stretching to tell the diff in screen caps, !! believe me, some people will prefer, interlaced over prog on dis one!!Diff, is so Indistinguishable!!
So, if ali, gets interested, i might be willing to send for posting..

believe me this prog vs interlaced stuff is getting dodgy too!!

Soryvansham..is prog..very good transfer.
virasat..is interlaced..very good again, both much better than Judaii, prog!

VIRAASAT review is exactly the opposite.

Perhaps more than one version exists.

Also, the progressive "Super Digital Video Sound" DVDs that I have come across so far turned out to be all single layer.

DULHE RAJA

Arsh, is ISHQ dual layer??

Also, I am debating which one is better; a single layer prog DVD (JUDWAA, DULHE RAJA) or a dual layer interlaced (VIRAASAT, DEEWANA MASTAANA) DVD.
I am sure all four are avail in prog mode and also have interlaced replicated versions.

i think the super digital/video sound dvd's would be better
remember these dvd's came about towards the beginning, when the indian dvd releasers were actually getting into dvd market and trying to make a good product
it was later on that video sound broke away from super digital and then VS authored (don't know by whom) pathetic dvd's
and as the time progressed they (VS, EROS) kept on producing one crap dvd presentation after the other, competing to see who can come up with the most pathetic dvd for indian films, and that with actually having bought the dvd rights of the films
isn't it sad, :bangbang: :ffs: :oh:
anyways, rana, you should try to locate super digital/video sound versions of the dvd's, no matter single or dual layered
i have the VIRASAT dvd by video sound, it is nothing but pathetic
ps: i have not bought any indian film dvd in a long time now, and have not bought any dvd for a new indian film dvd in a longer time :(

I'll cxheck, layers on all SD dvds , I posess!! Luckily, I posess both versions of JUDAII, I had KOYLA too, with subtitles, but gave it away..GOOD for me:
I primarily dont care for SUB titles..much.

Second: Sound on KOYLA with Subs is not DD 5.1 Discrete, but DILBY surround/pseudo 5.1..going for $2.99 at iw.com, today's price! :baaa:
