EK CHOTI SE LOVE STORY OPENS WELL!
The film is doing well on limited distribution!

Shashilal Nair's controversial movie Ek Choti Se Love Story has opened to an encouraging response in India.

The film, which received limited distribution, is showing to packed cinemas in cities such as Mumbai and considering its small budget, it should quite easily recover costs.

Although it has not opened in the UK yet, a recent preview screening also met a positive response on the whole from journalists.

Ek Choti Se Love Story hit the headlines before its release because its star Manisha Koirala and director Shashilal Nair had a fall-out about body exposure through the use of a body double.

**** Man! U guys, looks like ALREADY made it a HIT! lols!

HAVE u seen? komal, showering 5/10 on any film latelly? then SEE here!

EK CHHOTISI LOVE STORY - (Reviewed By Komal Nahta)

Producer: Paragon Pictures
Director: K. Shashilal Nair
Starring: Manisha Koirala and Aditya Seal

RATING: 5/10

http://www.radiosargam.com/movies/movie ... e/ecls.htm

Paragon Pictures International's Ek Chhotisi Love Story (A) is the story of infatuation and sexual awakening of a teenager. A young boy (Aditya Seal) is infatuated by a girl (Manisha Koirala) much older than him. Misinterpreting his infatuation as love, he keeps peeping in her house through his telescope and is attracted by her sex appeal. He even sees her making love to her boyfriend.

One day, he confronts the girl and tells her that he loves her. Understanding his plight, the girl takes him to her house and explains to him that what he feels for her is not love. Without indulging in intercourse, she educates him about sex. This makes the boy feel so guilty that he slits his wrist and has to be hospitalised. It is now the girl's turn to be consumed by guilt pangs. Finally, all's well when the boy comes to the girl to apologise.

What would have otherwise been a sensitive art film has been turned into a sensational commercial film with the addition of four semi-pornographic scenes.

Without those scenes, the film remains tasteful for the elite audience, but the voyeuristic pleasure of the four scenes makes the film one for the masses.

The first half has hardly any dialogues. It has bold scenes for the masses and a couple of light scenes too. The second half has its share of sex-laden innuendos. But once the boy learns his lesson in the girl's house, the film becomes a drag. The last about 20 minutes are terribly slow and boring. Even otherwise, the film moves at a snail's pace. Lack of dialogues adds to the boredom at times. However, the shock value due to the four scenes is tremendous.

Manisha Koirala lives the role of the single, bold and ultra-modern city girl living all alone. She is very good. Aditya Seal is extremely natural as the teenager on the threshold of adulthood. His innocent appearance suits the character beautifully. Saroj Bhargava is effective in the role of Aditya's grandmother. Ranvir Shorey has no worthwhile role except to make love to Manisha. Masood Akhtar stands out from among the handful of supporting artistes.

Shashilal Nair's scripting and direction are appropriate but he should've maintained a faster tempo and laced the drama with comedy for universal appeal. His addition of the four sex scenes is masterly as it enhances the commercial value of the film about a hundred times! The film has no songs (which is a drawback). Background score (Arvind Nirmal) is alright. Camerawork is pretty good.

On the whole, low-budget Ek Chhotisi Love Story has bold scenes to titillate and a sensational controversy behind it to draw in the crowds. Having taken a fantastic start, it will be an excellent money-spinner even though it does not have sustaining power. Ladies audience for the film will be minimal. 90% of its audience will be men and 80% of its business will be from cities.

Released on 6-9-2002 at Central Plaza, New Empire (matinee) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Shringar Films P. Ltd. Shows were cancelled on the first day itself due to Shiv Sena's protest. It is not known when shows will now resume. Publicity: fair. Opening: outstanding. .......Also released all over.

Opening was historic everywhere. (Shows on 1st day were also cancelled in Pune).

Censor Board may withdraw clearance to Ek Chhotisi...
Koirala meets I&B Minister, Shiv Sainiks halt screening in Patna

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj said actress Manisha Koirala's demand for withdrawal of a censor certificate to the controversial film Ek Chhotisi Love Story could be examined as there are such provisions in the law.

After a meeting with Koirala, who had opposed objectionable scenes performed by a body double in the film, Swaraj promised to examine the issue.

"There are provisions of this kind in the Cinematography Act. If the Censor Board has provided (the clearance certificate), we have to see on what grounds it (the censor certificate) can be withdrawn. This is what I have asked to be examined," Swaraj said. Recent Features

The actress, who plays the lead role in the film, said she had asked Swaraj if the censor certificate given to the film could be withdrawn under the Cinematography Act.

According to Koirala, the minister told her the matter was being examined by the ministry and "she will let us know at the earliest."

The meeting between the actress, who was accompanied by her lawyer Satish Maneshinde, and the minister lasted 10 minutes, official sources said.

I know someone who's seen the film. Apparently the shots are 'quite dissapointing' and remember are not of Manisha but of her double Jessica.
But someone else tells me that he believes it really was Manisha who did the scenes and this character Jessica has been 'invented' or 'hired to take the flak' just to save her the embarassment. So when Manisha saw the scene she objected cos of maybe how she looked and Nair said "oh, it's ok, we'll just say a body double did the scene". I'm not sure I believe this but he seens totally convinced.
