I would like to see classic film, SADMA(SRI DEVI/KAMLA HASAN) to be possibly released by Ayangran, as DEI is no more doing any thing.
Sadma will make a Wonderful dvd with, both, original tamil, and redubbed hindi sound tracks, on the same disc!
Any votes!!? :baaa:

DEI was activeley involved with this film, but as Sandish had stated (in my last communication with him).. that they couldnt do much with this film as the film was damaged without any possible chance of a recovery

Thnx! Can U push, Ayangran to include, HINDI sound track too!, otherwise, we can be happy with eng sub titles!
But, I'll miss excellent, songs written by GULZAR!
"eh zindgi gale lagale"

Music, I believe was both HINDI/Tamil, by ONE AND ONLY..ILAYA RAJA!
Thnx, Sunny, Give it a try yaar!
Man, I am still waiting for Kushi..lol! Cheers! :baaa:

The Tamil version is "Moonram Pirai." But wasn't the film shot separately in Hindi rather than being dubbed? I think some of the actors are different between the two versions. For example, I don't think Gulshan Grover is in the Tamil one.

The film was shot back to back once in Tamil and in Hindi (like Abhay was) The Hindi rights are with DEI so Ayngaran cannot do a dual track.

Sunny..i dunno why u defend the techniques of Ayngaran ( as they are the only company left who have a knack of listening to suggestions...) when they keep on using interlaced encoding techniques for their DVDs...
For me I would love the original Tamil version and maybe a Telugu audio track ..... (just like Bombay)...
But yeah SADMA is a film that is way out of thsi world....ARSH...No BEI :) Kareena was bluffing

Can someone fill me in the Sadma story.

Is it the film where Sridevi is suffering from memory loss and is looked after a mentally challenged Kamal hassan, and later on when Sridevi regains her memory leaves kamal hassan standing in the rain on a railway platform while he bangs on a metal pot on his head or am I way off the mark :keh: :doze:

you're on the right track.......... but i think sridevi not only loses her memory she is mentally challenged too (due to an accident) and kamal hasan looks after her. when she gains her memory and her senses back she fails to recgonise kamal and that scene with him banging the pot is his desperate attempt to have her remember him

May I suggest you watch their Ezumalai DVD then you know how much they have improved in quality beating even some of the region 1/2 DVDs done in progressive.

I dont believe the movie was shot back-to-back. It was a separate remake project taken up several years after Tamil original was made. I remember quite clearly SADMA was released at least a couple(actually more) years after MOONRAM PIRAI was. I had read about MOONRAM PIRAI winning the National Award in Filmfare when still in school and by the time SADMA came about I was in college....so there is no question it was shot back to back(unless they chose to sit on the Hindi footage for so long, waiting for God knows what).

Balu Mahendra gained his reputation with the Tamil original and gained a foothold into Bollywood with this movie. NC Sippy and gang (Gulzar, Hrishikesh Mukherjee included) backed this movie and were involved in this project after the movie won the National award. I quote all this from memory. Correct me if I am wrong.

you could be right, the film was made before my time so I was presuming it was made back to back. But its odd if it isn't as the film does look so similar with same locales, set designs and even camerawork.

It is one of Indian cinema's best tradegy love stories, and the ending is simply superb.
